Getting old is something that's been on my mind too recently*, but it struck me that back when I was 18, the idea of being over 30 seemed unthinkable to be that close to the grave. Yet (for the moment at least) the age at which I'm at continues to be the best yet!
*The reason being, probably, is that there have been two deaths in the family already this year (but balanced out that I've been to two weddings so far, with another to come). The interesting thing was their different attitudes to dying - both were elderly ladies but one was very accepting, and knew the end was near (In her words "Everyone has to die sometime"). The other was seemingly very worried about what was to come. I can only hope that I'm in the former category when my time comes...
I don't feel old until I hear myself saying shit like "buy a sensible car" ( ) or "I expect it's where you left it" (to someone looking for some object or other) or I'm unable to suss out how technology works (today, I have learned how to turn pixels in to £ from Paypal though, so there is hope). Or I look in the mirror ~sob ... I can't *possibly* be nearly 42.
Quitting smoking has made me feel 10 years younger though, and if improvements-so-far in skin and hair are anything to go by, people are going to start wondering in a couple months whether I have a picture in my attic - it's awesome

' . . . once you hit 18 you're looking at 5 - 10.' !!
The late Alan Arkin there; brilliant. Superb script, superb cast and made for 8 million dollars (Tom Cruise won't even get out of bed for that). Definitely a 'must see' film; 'Everyone pretend to be normal'!
