i have no problem with cans or coffee cups. Or you need to do is open the flap on the radio. Then put your cup or can in the cubbie bit there. Yes there is that small round bit of plastic bump thing. But ive had no problem.

Re: How many people use there bxs every day
When I was on the district I used to do upwards of 120 miles a day and on occasion the BX would break down. Mostly it could be fixorated at the side of the road.jacksun1987 wrote:How many people use there bxs every day. To get home and work.
Ive moved to tattrshell now. So i need to use the bx everyday. I do 30 miles nearly everyday.
Im quite shocked. I was scared at first. Thought it would break down
You own an older car because you can do these things and because you like the mechanical simplicity.
The wife runs a modern Vauxhall and it is forever breaking down. Nothing can be done at the roadside, hell it doesnt even have a spare wheel.
The BX is a GR9 daily driver car.

On a typical working day my BX does 55 miles and so far no problems other than a burst Hydraulic Pipe, ignition fault causing rough running but nothing to call the AA out for to recover back to base.
Must be the rural driving style because I could bet my last dollar that driven around town everday on congested roads it would have croacked at least once.

I use mine every day - most probably crank out 200-250km a week in mine.. Not counting longer trips
If I was to count those I most probably take it away for a decent trip 6 times a year ranging from 500km = 2000km.. average would be 750km each time.. Would clock up 15000km a year is my guess.
Averaging 7 litres per 100Km it proves to be totally economical..

The current TZD estate is just coming up for its Controle Technique again, so I've had it four years and just realised it's done about 55,000 miles in that time including trips to the Alps, the Pyrenees and backwards and forwards to UK a lot.
Breakdowns: 1. hydraulic pump belt went a couple of weeks after I put it on the road (it had been sat for several years and I think the pulley had rusted and ripped the belt).
It's had a few other minor problems (a water pump, a driveshaft, a wheel bearing), but never failed to get where it's pointed so it's always been possible to fix at home.
It's also had the usual consumables (discs, pads, half an exhaust), and regular oil changes, but I've never got round to doing the valve clearances.
Otherwise it's been perfectly reliable, does 45mpg and makes a perfect load-lugger. I paid 250 quid for it. Now that's bargain motoring!
I'm about to put the other TZD (paid £125 for that one) back on the road, so this one can have a proper service and I'll sort out a few odds and sods (the heater's always on, there are a few clunks from the suspension, etc. But I'm perfectly confident it'll do another 50k with no major problems, which wil take it well of 200,000.

I'm another BX daily driver - although driving it over the speed bumps at work has taken its toll on steering and suspension joints I think.....

The GSA will hopefully get an outing once I've slapped a bit of underseal on the areas of bare rusty metal underneath (!) and only if it's not raining (scuttle water leak).
Mark.
