Stinkwheel wrote:Only one thing to say really on this, no 2wd car is great in the snow, i personally feel my BX is quite good in the snow, the reason being, manual steering and the narrowest tyres available on them. Always helps.

Which is why i usually drive a 2CV in the snow.
I think it was pretty much established way back in the thread about that! The big problem in the snow is the tossers in the 4wds who think they are the king of the roads in all conditions and then find themselves in a bit of bother.

Lucky the deep snow dont last that long and gets compacted or salted down to a nice solid mass to skate on.

Thats a bit immature.

I got access to several vehicles including a 4wd or two but I still prefer the BX to all of them.

I see the carnage caused by the tall poppy syndrome of jump in a 4wd and you are bullet proof.

Why do you bother to own a BX if you can not have pride in its abilities and try to get the most out of it?

I'm not sure personal insults help the debate or unless it's a 4x4 BX where they are valid to the original post.

Whys that? The BX is a great little car punches above its weight anyone who doubts that really should not own one.

Now thats the ultimate in BX driving without doubt. :D

Have any BX4x4 owners made any comments about that?

If Grenman's experience is that his Mazda is better than his BX, who are we to argue, i'm surprised, but heyho that's life eh

My little VW Polo Fox Coupe with skinny tires & 45bhp was pretty good in the snow with summer tyres, but i'd still put my money on my bx txd or TZD when it was working with winter tyres above any other car i've driven on snow etc....

I think the problem with 4x4's, is that there are many variants, most of which aren't used for any sort of offroading, so i think when we generalise we are talking about chelsea tractor owners rather than actual experienced offroaders with their 4x4's.

Anyone else driven a car thats as good, better or worse than their bx in the snow?

I have to say I prefer the TD with no ABs in snow and ice than the 16v with ABs in the same conditions.
It's much easier to get and keep traction in the diesel, especially if I keep it out of the boost range.
The valver is rather happier to spin up, and the ABS is utterly shit in snow, so much so I pulled the fuse, which improved things no end.
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

That's surprising / interesting - is that because it operates too quickly do you think - perhaps not allowing enough 'off' time to regain grip ?

In my experience with non ABS cars, you get a build up of snow in front of the wheels when you skid, helping you stop. Obviously I try and avoid braking on snow (easier out in the sticks!) and use the engine instead - the only time I've locked up the BX it was below the cut in speed for the ABS, so can't comment on its effectiveness.
