So what about the TV / monitor and lighting then? It's not just about a brew...

As mentioned, TV brings a whole world of licence issues. In my experience, no-one much looks at them anyway, and the people on the stand (and surrounding stands) just slowly get driven mad by the same thing going around and around.
Lighting IS an issue, I'll grant that, but BXC is a very small club and I think people need to remember the club doesn't have the resources to deliver a flashy stand. I'd argue it also really doesn't matter.
Cars will be on the stand. The lighting will be crap. This is the same for every club without an enormous budget. People will see cars they're interested in and will come and look at them. They don't care how well lit they are. Many of these people will want to chat about their memories, or to find out more about them. This is where BXC members come in. They do not need to be artistically illuminated. The cars are, rightly, the focus. People then need to mooch about and natter. Really, you need no more than that, though a few props (like a boot full of logs) will help draw attention.

I've been to Inverness and you'll struggle to find a decent comedy club up there.IOWBX wrote:I am happy to contribute, will be visiting the show on saturday before taking the 4x4 up to inverness for a laugh....

I can't do the weekend as I've (finally) got a spot marshaling the Rally GB in Narf Wales!
But i can come say hello Thursday/Friday evening post work, and happy to shunt people about if it helps (though it might be in the company hack).

We've still not made the ante for carpet I'm afraid yet guys - current funds stand at £230.28. This is the amount after paying PL insurance of £111.30.

Do we need a licence to walk on the carpet?Caffiend wrote:We've still not made the ante for carpet I'm afraid yet guys - current funds stand at £230.28. This is the amount after paying PL insurance of £111.30.
Seriously though, what does the carpet cost?

Jesus that's pricey carpet! I'm willing to chip in another £25, so if five more people do then we've got it near enough.Paul296 wrote:£324.00 plus 40/50 quid delivery.Kitch wrote: what does the carpet cost?

That's the very very cheapest cord carpet I could find anywhere: 108m2 @ £3m2. With one or two more small contributions we should just about make the grade (I'll put in a few more quid to make sure we get there). I know I've banged on about it but I remember from looking round the halls in previous years, it makes all the difference between looking like you mean business, and just another club that poled up in a half-assed kind of way. It also means we have the carpet for any other events we do in the future.Kitch wrote:Jesus that's pricey carpet! Yeah fully agree mate. Well like I say I'm willing to chip in a little bit more if it helps. I suppose it's quite a big area to cover too. Have you considered floor tiles? They're pretty cheap from a place over the road but I'm not sure exactly how much.Paul296 wrote:

If you can find carpet any cheaper Kitch - I'd be VERY interested to hear - remember to factor in delivery costs though.
Tim - Will definitely need the banner holders - sure I'll be seeing you in the next week or two so we can sort it out then?
Whatever happens we WILL get there and it WILL be brilliant!

Floor tiles would have to be individually taped down. I'll leave the rest to your imaginations ...

Floor tiles are to be avoided at all costs. They're an absolute nightmare (I speak from previous club stand experience!)
