Accelerator woes?

Bloody Hell, Dean!

There was a full BX Pedal box went on t'Bay only last week!!!!
IIRC it went for a tenner.

I may have posted this before but can't be bothered to read back.

I repaired the pedal on mine in situ in the dark without welding. I made up a small section of 1 inch angle - with a hole to support the pedal and bolted it in place using the 2 existing bolts in that area of the pedal box. A little bit of careful marking and I suppose the job took me 1 1/2 hours about 7 1/2 years ago and its still in place.

Much easier than clearing everything out of the way to weld it, or for that matter the huge amount of dismantling needed to change the pedal box. I seem to remember burrowing under the carpet having disconnected it from the sill.

When I had this trouble on mine, I removed the pedal and drilled a hole in the end of the pivot shaft, which I then 'tapped' with a self tap screw. Then made up a bracket to reach from the end of the pedal pivot to the bulkhead. Screwed the bracket to the bulkhead and the pedal pivot, and voila no more throttle problems. This takes the sideways load off the pedal box and hence the crack doesn't get any worse. Lasted 35k miles until I sold it...

On mine it was only the flange that supported the pedal which had partially broken away - this is of course a long way away from the important bit supporting the brake and clutch pedals and beyond the securing bolts anyway - so I don't think it materially affects the strength of the pedal box

I'd have thought a tack welded repair would probably out live the car anyway. Should it fail all that's likely to happen is that you gradually loose full throttle travel again.
