Passed mot today, no advisories. Just need to change to summer tyres & change the lhm to hydraincage to see if that sorts out the steering etc...

Well today i've done my 1st ever lhm change, i did a version of the better way as described in the diy section, with the exception of not doing the brake bleeding as i couldnt be arsed to take the wheels off & wasnt that confident of how to actually bleed them properly & didnt want to go sheering off the rear nipples.

Bit of a git to get the air purged out, but eventually she rose, hurrah

Lhm that came out was a cloudy browny green colour, both filters had loads of bits of grit/dirt in them. The best bit was what was left at the bottom of the tank, erm, brown mud/sludge pretending to be lhm.

I'm amazed at how much crap was in the system, where the hell does it all come from. Ok, this is probably the 1st time its ever had it done, but even so, i was shocked at the amount of muddy silt & bits that came out.

So cleaned the filters & the tank, thanks to ken for warning me about the sharpness of the inside of the tank rim, so i sanded that down a bit to save my hands.

Filled up with hdyraincage stuff, so hopefully thats going to loosen up even more shite thats still in the system.

What i did forget to do was to put the bloody disc in the bottom of the tank. I guess it wont make that much difference as i'll be changing back to lhm in a few thousand miles anyway? or should i pop it back in?

Nearly fitted an extra filter like some of the members on here, to do some extra lhm filtering, but wasnt quite sure exactly how to place it & wifey was wanting to go out, so hopefully next weekend i'll get that sorted.

I trust you did that with the tank out and flushed it well afterwards?

Reason being that the grit that falls off sandpaper or emery does not mix well with hydraulic valves and slides even with hydraurincage in the system!

Got the rear speaker cables fitted today & some of the other cables sorted around the head unit as well by local car audio place. Fitted my 6x9's that were sat in my tzd doing nowt, so now i've got mega sounds

So time to outdo/outloud the chavs

Fitted the plastic disc back into the lhm tank, didnt realise how warm the lhm gets

Also fitted an extra external filter as per some of the other lads. It would appear to be connected to the brakes, as i noticed it surging through the filter when i pressed the brake pedal. It would appear to be picking up some gunk already, so thats good news & it would appear that the flow rate is quite high so it should clean the hydraflush & hopefully avoid too much dirt/scum getting into the main lhm tank. I'll report my findings as i go along.

Oh, also got local mechanic to tighten up the front subframe bolts, all 4 of them. Not really sure if its gotten rid of that clonking sound as the roads locally are a bit too smooth. A trip to work tomorrow will reveal all as the cars suspension gets a real work out in Sheffield

Went visiting Dean on Saturday, up in Sunny Barnsley

Car is now sporting a nice new driver side drop link.

Usual story with all of my cars, what should have taken 15mins, took over an hour to get the little bugger off. Thanks to Dean's previous experience on them he managed to get the bottom nut off & eventually sawed off the top nut as it stubbornly refused to relinquish the last few threads..... So glad i didnt attemp this at home, i would have been cursing & wondering how on earth to get the bleeder off. So useful knowledge gained so i can have a go next time.

I'll find out on Monday if thats stopped or reduced the clonking sounds, its only Sheffields roads which are able to make it clonk, everywhere else believe it or not is actually quite smooth

Dean also spotted the driver side caliper was seized, so kindly sorted that out for me as well & spotted that the brake pads hadnt been fitted quite right

Erm, that'll be me then....It appears that the metal spring thing that fits over the top, i had tucked it in at the bottom of the pad so that it didnt flex at all.

Thanks to his mum & dad for lunch (i must thank the old droplink for making that happen

Since the brake was sorted, for some reason the brake pad low warning light keeps coming on now & again, with some haphazzard flickering, more distracting than anything else, i wonder why its started doing that???

Had a quick look at the bust sunroof, its a headlining drop down job, so i think it will stay bust for the forseeable future, no real loss as i didnt use it that much, but its still a bit annoying though

So aside from those little probs, everything seems to be workig hunkydory for the mo in readyness for Wetherby....

Sounds like something I'm experiencing to a degree. Droplink replaced. The clonking returned. Overall check; nothing obvious. Clonking not so bad it worries me as it only manifests itself on crappy surfaces. Worse uphill funnily enough.

Can you sort of feel it through the pedals?

Erm, i can feel it through the whole car, it's quite a specific noise which doesnt sound good. I wonder it could be the strut?
