Footman James

Post by Tourist »

I've noticed you've got this scheme thing going with Footman James, I wanted to ask if I qualify to apply for it? I'm probably too young (17) but if I can apply for it, it'd help me out a lot seeing as my premiums are billions of pounds at the moment (no, I will never get a FIESTA!) and is classic car insurance capped at a certain price?

Thanks again. Your feedback is pretty useful, I'm learning ... :)

AFAIK there is no age limit, other than the usual way insurers weight things for under 25's

Try the online quick quote. My actual premium ended up a tad cheaper than that!

My experience with FJ has been brilliant. Insurance for my 14tge is £120ish. I am 27, a couple of claims over the years and work use.

Hope this helps!

Hi Chris,
I love mine too - much better than I thought it would be. I have had 19 Citroen's in the past - 2cv's, XM's BX 19D's, Activa, CX, Acadiane, Xantia TD's, ZX D's, Visa 17D - and always looked down on BX petrols until I go one. I bought mine about 6 months ago when I sold my Acadiane. I use it every day for work (I am a community nurse spend my time running round town). It's been great fun!

FJ have been brilliant for my BX and Acadiane - so cheap and easy to deal with Not made a claim with them yet so can't comment on that aspect of ther service.

I would love a GS/A. I looked at one a couple of years ago and should have bought it! My Acadiane and CX were highlights - both my only car at the time and great fun (18mpg in the CX wasn't great though).

Never looked closely at a R Safrane but spoke to an English guy in France who had one. His was French registered at a 2.5TD. He claimed it was around 180BHP and would do the journey that had taken me (in my 602 cc van) around 12 hours in under 7... I'm glad I wasn't on the same bit of road when he tried to prove that claim!

safrane

Post by chriscarterstevens »

my gsa was brilliant, the safrane was just weird!

it was a 3 litre v6 auto no probs with autobox, very very quick, liked to spin its wheels at any opportunity, full intelligent voice synthsised talking on board computer and the best thing for me.....

a double din philips cd tape stereo (standard equipment) with a full digital graphic equaliser built in (the best stereo ive had in any car EVER.)

and i always buy alpine car audio so i dont buy cheap!

i like my ODD cars lol

thats why citroens are perfect for me :D

I just had a quick look at the site, I don't qualify because they only cover people 25 or over  that's a shame.

The safrane sounds cool! Guess an arch-rival of the XM in it's day.

Shame about FJ Tourist. I assume you've looked at the normal comparision sites and played around with mileage limits/excess etc?

Join the club mate, Insurance companies are evil... I've been driving a BX for just over a year now, and my insurance premium is still positively revolting. When the right Phase 2 16valve comes along, I will take the hit on insurance, but for now I will stick with my soon to be fully Phase 2'd 14TGE

The amount I pay for both cars is still rather scarey, and I'm 28 with many many years NCB...

Try NFU, they seem to be about cheaper than anybody for any type of insurance. They even do buses!
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

Footman James are very good value but I found there customer services rather unhelpul and rude, when I wanted to swop my insurance from the valver to the TD, originally the say it cant be done, then they said it would cost £60 in admin fees even though it was a cheaper car with a lower grouping, I argued and was told politely to sod off. So the TD is with a someone else as will be the valver and GT next time round.

Do you mean the mileage you put in is a limit and not an estimate? How are you supposed to know how many miles you'll do in a year, and will they cover you if you exceed it? I never knew it was a "limit" now it's sounding more scary.
