The highest mileage BX poll

Post by Philip Chidlow »

OK chaps...

Who can boast a BX with genuine mileage of more than 226,000 or 211,000 miles (The 'Green Hornet' q.v., and my GTi auto)...?

Not mine but wasn't there a MK1 19RD with around 900k on the clock somewhere? I read about it on a forum a few years ago I think.

Our old Hurricane nearly got there, reached 209,932 but only have this picture from when it was on 207,440.

Also there is that TZD estate on eBay at the moment with 231,000.

My first BX Break a MK 1 RD finished up with 326k on it and then got sold to a nice couple who wanted to drive it to Birmingham. C323 NAN was the reg no and it had power steering which I understand was quite rare for an RD.

Sounds like an ex Citroen UK car to me with that reg. Sadly I cant compete with that as the highest miles I have at the mo is the 16v with 140k.

Had a DTR in 1998 that died with 249,000 on clock. Kathryn can verify that.

But at Setchey, near Kings Lynn, my garage showed me a TZD belonging to a self employed salesman which had 473,000 on the clock. Phil, my garage mate assured me it was genuine, that he had taken the car over at 3 years old and kept it on the road for his customer. Gotta say, apart from drivers seat, looked immaculate.

That is astronomical mileage... given an average of 12,000 per annum (which is no means exceptional) a 1988 BX could reasonably have quarter of a million miles on it. I bet there're BX's with over half a million on the clock...

At the moment I believe this holds the record for a Club member's currently owned/running BX...

well for me of the many BXs owned the boggyman mileage seemed to be not being able to hit 140,000 miles before some disaster killed the car or as in the case a cuple got sold.

So at present I have one BX with roughly 190,000km (119k miles) which is roughly because of a odometer problem.

The second BX sits at 276,000km (172,500 miles) which considering it was destined for parts and now has been given new life is pretty good.

Trouble is the achievement is to pass 140k miles which the primary BX has 34,000km to do and at my current travel thats probably 5 or more years away

My now non running BX TZD which is going to be stripped for parts has 283000 miles on the clock and was still running well when she was taken off the road in 2007.
But sadly the metal moth has infested the body and she is in a sad state body wise. :( :(
But she will live on in parts.

Regards Kermit :) :)

my Monica has only just "run-in", at 130k

Would that qualify for a description of "Clean, low mileage model"??

Nah  My TXD still has less than 99k on her, originally had 76k which is why i reckon she goes so well. I'm always surprised at the acceleration above 70 on a flat & still goes well over 80 up a hill (all on a racetrack of course  )

I think Ian Fern was impressed i kept up with his turbo back up north from the national last year.

All i need is a 6th gear as she can be driven into the red with ease in 5th :o

Anyone ever done a 6spd diesel conversion before? I'd love to have a drive in one. If the 6th gear was really long, you could cruise at 70 at 2000rpm like a modern diesel rather than the noisy 3000 odd, that would help fuel economy no end as well as long distance cruising....

Gearing on old diesels can be a problem, a 6th gear would be good on a lot of older cars ... to give them an easier time on long motorway journeys. It doesn't need to have any power, just enough to keep you going while giving the engine an easier time.
