I have been using both my BXs everyday - especially as I have recently moved house - with seats down and roof box on, shifting loads to and from storage, picking up furniture and delivering mountains of waste to the recycling centre/dump. I think it would be hard to find such a useful vehicle for the money. And difficult to find one that just did what was asked of it with such aplomb.

What's more, with roof bars off and seats up, rear head rests replaced and with rear parcel shelf back in place, the BX is as comfortable a medium family car as one could expect for it's age.

What other cars of that era will offer similar, relatively compact, flexibility? A Renault? Ford? Peugeot? I fancy the Sierra was similary capacious, I don't know - I never had one. Any suggestions for serious BX rivals? (and don't forget the 'style' factor!)...

The CX estate? You could probably fit a BX in the back of one!

Montego was a useful load lugger but style? Perhaps not.

And Cavmad can say what he wants but the mkII Cavalier estate was possibly the worst piece of styling before Ssangyong came into being!

CX estate. Great, I fancy a Safari one day (CX - not Kenya!).

Not what I'd call 'compact' though!

Ignoring Mr Green`s remarks about the most stylish estate ever built  I`d suggest the Rover P6 estate as one of the most stylish. Real shame they were never made in numbers, I don`t think it was Rover that actually built them though (Tim will more than likley confirm/deny this).
I swear my garage was 85% full and just two trips to the skip in my old BX estate and I`m nearly there.
It`s kinda like an old two stroke bike now: noisey (rear estate door won`t close properly), raucous (it`s sort of thrashy) and smelly (thank`s to Aldi`s special fuel).
I swear a combination of vege oil and a bloody good thrashing have managed to find a good dose more speed. Had a Focus off at the lights yesterday, a VW G*lf the day before and (with some very sneaky trickery) got in the wrong lane at the lights yesterday and did my mate over big time in his 04 plate Astra turbo diesel. Saw him at work today and he said (and I quote) " I thought your car was an old diesel, what engine have you got now, a 2 litre 16V or something?" :D :D
Fitted my £12.00 radar detector from eBay this morning and it works a bloody treat, already flushed out some sneaky police trap on the way to work.

having owned and driven a couple of CX safari's and Familials imust say they are the best estate ever, as any hydro Cit drive as well as the saloon and big enough to put most things in/on with full length roofrack.

Seriously practical, seriously pretty and not as expensive or unreliable as people would have you think.

Stylish estate? I think the Triumph 2000 estate is a worthy candidate for that accolade.

I`ll go along with that, especially the Mk1.

Having owned a Morris Marina estate and a Hillman Hunter estate (my first car) I`m not really in the position to take the mickey!
