E-mail being printed in Classic Car Weekly + Malvern Show

Post by tidus72 »

Just thought you would be interested about an e-mail I sent to Ian Seabrook, Deputy Editor of Classic Car weekly. Some of you may know him.

It was generally about the rarity of seeing a BX on the road and if he thought they had reached "Classic Car" status yet.

He said in his eyes he belived they had reached this and he intends publishing my question in the next issue of the paper which comes out on the 26th of March. He also recomended me to join www.bxclub.co.uk :D

I have also entered my BX into the Malvern Classic Car Show on Sunday the 19th of April. They will take any cars as long as they were registered before 1994. My old BX should raise some eybrows at the MG Owners Club

So if your in the area on that sunday come along, the more BX`s the better, entry is only £3 per car, that includes entry for 2 adults & 2 Kids. have a look at www.classicshows.org and give them a call for an entry form.

Theres a small mention of the BX in this months practical classics, under an article on car designers, it says " the mechanics of the car were dull but the styling was WEIRD" Ah well at least its in print.

Some Citroen main dealer mechanics may well have been a bit dull.
At any rate one of them came up with a pretty weird diagnosis on my 19TRS claiming the carb spindle was worn. Complete rubbish as it tuned out --- cost me £20 for this learned advice. At least I didnt follow it which would have been even more expensive possibly setting me back the cost of a new carb.

Ian Seabrook is a top bloke as it goes and was a member on here I'm sure. Excuse me if I ahve the wrong person but he might have been known as Yan2CV?
Anyhow he's a top bloke and CCW is an excellent read.

My Dad wrote a BX 16v buying guide in CCW when he worked there...

The BX is a classic. You will always get people who say they aren't, but they are the people who think rubber bumper MGBs are not classics.

Didn't Ian Seabrook own a Triton Green P2 16v?

I helped write a buyer's guide to the Mk2 Cavalier for CCW not so long back which I enjoyed doing.
In fact I've not bought CCW in a while and need to start buying it again, always a really good read.

Agreed, but also a bloody dangerous read.... Lucky really I have so much self-restraint/a partner whose definition of "classic" and "nasty boxy 70s80s banger" are different to mine (delete as appropriate)!

Some cars she agrees are nice: Renault 5, Renault Dauphine, MGB, Triumph Spitfire, Sunbeam Alpine, Jag E Type, Citroen DS & GS, Citroen XM, Citroen 2CV, Beetle, Pug 205.

Some cars she doesn't agree are nice: Citroen BX  , VW Polo Mk1, Triumph TR7, Austin Princess, Morris Marina.

Mark.

Ah yes, but she dislikes boring boxes and owns a Honda Jazz. I'm not sure I'd risk pointing out the obvious contradiction here though ;)

Mmmh..... I think I've got to agree with her except on her placement of the BX :) And I would also bump that choice of the Sunbeam Alpine and replace it with a Sunbeam Tiger which looks the same but will beat that E-Type away at the lights! :P

I had the fortune to drive both an Alpine and a Tiger - as well as a TR7 and a Triumph Stag at a classic car meet about twelve years ago... All, without exception were not up to the job. Looked the part but dynamically hopeless. I also drove an MG Midget - which was fun - and a Triumph Spitfire (which I couldn't fit into properly).

Has anyone here driven a DS? Because I for one haven't. And I think I need to :)
