Well I never....

Post by Barnsley BXer »

I've just been reading the latest edition of the CCC magazine and it says Ian's 4x4 previously belonged to Andrew Howe.I saw this car at Wetherby 2004 and it was simply superb :D A question for you Ian,How did you get him to part with it?Did you hold a shotgun to his head?(this usually works)Does he still have his red L-reg GTI(apparrently one of only 5?)

Yes, it did belong to Andrew Howe.

I told him i'd buy it at the Stratford CCC show last year. He said it wasnt for sale but after a few phone calls and emails he agreed to sell it.

I went down to London to buy it with a view to possibly buying his L reg red GTi too. I only bought the 4x4 though (for a knocked down price too!). Believe it or not that red GTi was made in 1991 according to the RP number so all was not as it seemed.

Late last month i got a Citroen specialist friend to go look at the red GTi. It turned out to need an awful lot of work and had been in a front end shunt at some point. In its defence it was very well priced. So i'm still on the look out for a GTi or 16v needing little or preferably no work.

I swear I saw that 4x4 win a show and shine a couple of years back.

Yes, it did win a show and shine 18 months ago now.

Something very strange has happened to the roof though. Its all gone discoloured.

Also one of the gutters has been filled with some kind of black sealant.

To get the roof properly re-painted would cost more than the car cost to buy and when i could get another good BX for that price i'm not that inclined the spend the money.
