Since when has LPG been as readily available as unleaded fuel? News to me.
I don't expect you to be in touch with this David, but insurance companies SCREW people our age for anything they can. They may well be "working to a system" but that doesn't matter, at the end of the day a 16 will be more to insure than a 14, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if they charged even more for an LPG converted car, because it's no longer standard.

Since when has an LPG converted car NOT been able to run on unleaded fuel? LPG converted cars work on BOTH fuels, not just one. As I mentioned, if you don't know or understand the subject matter, don't comment.Tourist wrote:Since when has LPG been as readily available as unleaded fuel? News to me.

Actually, I am in touch with insurance issues, and if you read back through the thread, I've mentioned this as one of the reasons why a 14 would be a better choice. Just remember that I was once a teenager too, and I know what happens when you're a teenager. You on the other hand have no idea what it's like to be 15 years older than that, and have a teenager tell you that you don't know what you're talking about.
.. and if you knew what you were talking about with insurance issues, an LPG conversion need not cost any more in insurance terms as long as it has a gas safety installation certificate.
The choice of a 16 isn't ideal as a first car, but at the same time the LPG conversion actually make it MORE acceptable, as it means it can run for somewhere near half the cost of petrol.

I have to disagree, I used to have a Volvo 240, and alot of owners of those replace the complete fuel tank with an LPG tank...not my cup of tea but as a 19 year old as I was then, I got quotes on the basis of a 'normal' type LPG installation retaining the petrol tank too, it would have been £250 more to insure...
Plus around here I have a choice of either driving 8 miles or 10 miles just to get LPG or half a mile for unleaded.

That's not what has been done on the car in question..... it has its normal petrol tank with an additional LPG tank.retrodriver wrote: alot of owners of those replace the complete fuel tank with an LPG tank...
In which case you didn't look around enough. I've considered more than one LPG converted vehicle, and have never had to pay more for insurance. This included when I was 19, and LPG vehicles were still a bit of a new thing.retrodriver wrote:I got quotes on the basis of a 'normal' type LPG installation retaining the petrol tank too, it would have been £250 more to insure...
So you fill up when you're passing... not difficult surely?retrodriver wrote:Plus around here I have a choice of either driving 8 miles or 10 miles just to get LPG or half a mile for unleaded.

Selective quoting.... brilliant isn't it.Tourist wrote:Which would be what I said ... when I made that "sweeping generalisation" earlier.DavidRutherford wrote:The choice of a 16 isn't ideal as a first car
Yes. But that point had already been made, and you made the comment on your completely incorrect assumption that an LPG converted car couldn't be run on petrol.
I thought you'd stopped being a cocky teenager.....

DavidRutherford, You do seem to be quite angry about being questioned on what you are saying.
I was responding to your comment 'Since when has an LPG converted car NOT been able to run on unleaded fuel?' Well.....lots of times actually, in the case of many Volvo 240s, as I mentioned.
The fact of the matter is, LPG would make a young guys insurance more expensive, end of. The same way that adding mods to any other type of car does. Just because you have a pro install some lowering springs doesnt mean it wont increase the premium, its still a modification, and it will still affect the price.
And yes thankyou im sure I could manage to fill up with LPG when passing a station, I dont think I would find it 'difficult' but inconvenient, yes I would.
