I'm thinking of buying this car now :))

Does anyone know the legal situation if I wanted to drive the car 100 miles for it's MOT? I'm guessing I'd just need to book it in for a test and transfer my insurance?

Oh dear - multiple post excitement - sorry!!

I see the exhaust needs fixing - so that puts paid to driving it home first :-(

I'm sure this was for sale before. My personal feeling is that this is a parts vehicle for some masochist that has already got a 4x4 BX! However, if you fancy joining the ranks of the masochists Scarecrow then I'm sure you'll get all the support you need here.

As for the legality of the MOT mission, I'd say go for it before our resident lawyer dear David R speaks up! Also take lots of pictures of yourself while driving along and the various bits flying off at high speed. :D

Do you have to try hard to be a complete and utter arsehole, or does it come naturally? Whether anyone chooses to partake in unlawful activities is entirely up to them, but to either recommend such a practice, or indeed parade evidence of it on an open public forum is stupidity.

Actually, it's perfectly legal to book an MOT and then drive the car to it, providing you are insured. If it is further away than a "local" mot, you'd need a fair reason as to why you've used that particular MOT station, but the reason that "it's near where I live" is fine. IE, you buy the car 100 miles away, get stopped just as you leave, and the MOT is 90 miles away from where you are, but only a few miles from your home, then no problem.

Yo be perfectly honest I hadn't even noticed it was a 4x4. It's definitely not for me as after the initial rush the reality of fuel economy kicked in and the fact that living in the SE means I'd be driving it in second gear most of the time!

Doesn't look like a breaker to me Todd!

I spoke to a lady at the VOSA to ask that very question about distance as its a loophole im very fond of and she said there were no 'rules' on distance therefore its fine to drive as far as you like, my furthest has been about 200 miles and ive not had a problem.

Thats been on before. Only needs a windscreen, mot & an exhaust, erm so thats thousands before you've even looked at anything else on it :lol:

Scrap price & if you have deep pockets i'm afraid. It would be nice to save, so if youre up for the challenge go for it :D

The exhaust system on these has been harped on about quite a few times, i'd just get a full stainless steel one fitted instead for around the £250+mark instead of trying to source a spare original, as unlikely to find & probably even more costly.

how about driving a car with no MOT back to Ireland? Theres a good GSA Pallas in essex i'm probably going to have a look at with no MOT needs some welding to back subframe but otherwise looks like a lovely motor. And it doesn't need an MOT/NCT over here as its just 30 years old - one of the first GSAs. mmmm...

Good luck with the GSA - I love those cars. But I'm not sure about the wisdom of mot exemption based on age! Seems to me that some kind of safety validation is even more necessary for old cars.

But what do I know? (Not a lot).

Seems an odd rule doesn't it, but the rules are different in Ireland.

Does the vehicle have to be registered in Ireland for that exemption to apply? I'm wondering if you can register it in Ireland before you drive it back, which means it's then nothing to do with the UK rules.
