Every now and then, recently, in the hot weather after a long-ish drive at high-ish speeds where the engine gets nicely 'up to temp' and the whole car's going well - I will stop at the journey's end. Pull in, select reverse and initially nothing happens. Then with a press on the gas a bit the gear apparently selects with a jolt and I am then able to manoeuver OK. But what is causing this?
Things I have changed recently:
My habit of selecting N at long light sequences (see elsewhere) - stopped doing that, now hugely better since reducing the idle to around 750 rpm and although there's still vibration it is tolerable.
Could it be the reduced idle speed (and as it drops in R or D) results in no 'creep' in R? But why the violent jolt. Time to go to an auto box specialist?
(Checked the fluid level when hot - it's fine)...
