Help Please - leaky hose

Post by sarahjaneking »

Hi,

just bought my bx (1.7 txd) and need to replace a perished hose and I'm hoping that you guys can help me identify, source and give me some tips on replacing :D

Firstly here's my incredibly (non) technical description :?

looking above the n/s front wheel there are two hoses which attach next to each other to metal pipes they come down and join together on a rectangular piece of plastic behind the wheel, at least one of these has lhm seeping through, so firstly what is it? (I'm thinking strut return pipe?????????? ), secondly where do i get one? and thirdly is it hard to change?

many thanks in advance for your help

Quite right, that is indeed the strut return and breather pipe. GSF supply replacements, which are cheap but poor quality and not terribly long-lived, or you could go to a Citroen dealer for OE quality but a rather higher price...

Easy job however, the pipes just pull off the inner wing end, and the strut end will release once the clip is released. The clips can be reused, however it is a fiddle without the proper pliers, so I usually instead use a jubillee clip together with the spreader plate off the original clip.

Good luck,
Jonathan.

If going with the original type of clip, a pair of thin-end carpenter's pincers are a good tool for removing the old clip or refitting a new one - I generally try to fit a new clip when doing this as the old ones can't always be re-used.
Back on two wheels and pedal power for the moment.

Thanks :D

I've ordered genuine parts from citispares, don't know if they are any good but will let you know, I'm going to try and fit a new clip with the aid of my dads pincers as david has suggested but will bear jonathan's helpful tip in mind in case I don't manage it, I'll let you know how I get on and will no doubt be speaking to you all again soon

thanks again

With the pincers (the type for pulling nails out of wood) this is quite an easy job, and access is good too once the wheel is off.

Be sure to chock the car up well, use an axle stand in case the jack moves- sorry if you know all that sort of stuff (sucking eggs etc)

Thanks Mike :) it's always good to be reminded, especially as I had forgotten that the handbrake was on the front

Job is now completed \:D/

I first attempted with the wheel in place, but that just gave me neck ache, the old hose was held on via the "old plate and jubilee clip method" and I have to admit that after 2 hours trying to do that stupid clip up the new hose is as well

Anyway the main thing is that I now have no leak and a fully functioning car :D

many thanks to everyone for their input, it's very much appreciated :D :D
