Central Locking

Post by Discoil »

New kid here (60) trying to sort out bx estate locking.
Used to mend/service these at a main dealer but left problem electrics to the electrician.

Bought another one with decent paint job to doors and changed them onto mine.

Since then

driver's door unlocks tailgate, both rear doors

Passenger door unlocks and locks everything

With passenger door unlocked and operating driver's door, cannot lock anything with pass door button up.

Changed main operating electronic block under handbrake
Tried swopping wires around on driver's side locking.(bad move )

Getting used to it now but would appreciate it working properly

From what you're saying it sounds like a system without a plip, or where you don't have one.

It could be that the either the solenoid for locking the passenger door, or the passenger doorlock mechanism are a bit reluctant to move unless forced to manually. Is the lock action stiff at all?

Alternatively, the solenoid isn't being triggered to lock remotely, probably due to a dirty contact or mangled wire somewhere, which should be traceable through continuity checks.

It's all a question of what you can live with, really.

If you still have the old doors then the old solenoid or lock could be swapped-in, though first I'd check the action of the solenoid on the passenger side when disconnected from the lock linkage.

If you had a plip I'd be asking whether that locks everything...
Back on two wheels and pedal power for the moment.

I swapped the keyed locks over from the old doors and I think back now to have used different solenoids.

You've jogged the old brain into thinking mode so that I need to find a pair of matching solenoids by bench testing them

Many thanks for replying
