BX starting perfectly then cutting off when warmed up.
In all my years so far of driving this has to be the worst . While i was driving the Citroen , the car suddenly starts juddering like hell and the revs were fluctuating +- 2500 rpm from the normal. And fuel gauge doing the same but between empty and full. I stalled three times while coming to a stop, and at one point the car stalled while i was turning narrowly missing the car in front.
I could only come to the conclusion that there is something wrong with the carb or the auto-choke. The fuel pump seemed to be pumping normally. as seen through the clear filter canister.
Luckily i managed to bring it home , rather that break down competely.
Please, has anyone had this problem or know why this might be?

I had the same problem with mine just after I bought it and it was a blocked idle jet if I recall. I limped to my son's house and left it there and he took me home where I had a can of carb cleaner. I blasted it through as many orifices as I could see and then gave it an Italian tune up. Whatever it was had moved and normality returned. As you say DFF53 it can be very alarming if you are in traffic. For the price of a can of carb clean its worth a go.

Just a thought
You have a New Zealand registered BX correct? One that has Aircon?
Have you considered it to be a fault with the adjustment of the Aircon Idle screw? Reason I say that is I had an issue with over reving caused by that screw.

My car does not have AC, maybe its the CARB float problem Cam was talking about on my other thread.
Also Kiwi, i tried GSF for the FDV rebuild kit and they said that its a discontinued item. I will be getting it from a Supplier in Tauranga , he can do it for $98 + gst. As opposed to Bishops $125+

worth a thought anyways.
bugga about the FDV kit, still its less than $100 so really thats still better than getting a new one or a potential leaky 2nd hand one.

Well, three times so far i have started the car from cold, and it starts brilliantly at high idle of course then gradually reducing to normal idle around 650rpm once warmed up then completely cutting off. I dont really know what to think. Is there any idle cut off switch that maybe malfunctioning.. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like it is idling to low? bring the warm idle up to 800 rpm see if that makes any differance.DFF53 wrote:Well, three times so far i have started the car from cold, and it starts brilliantly at high idle of course then gradually reducing to normal idle around 650rpm once warmed up then completely cutting off. There is another possibility that relates to the module that sits on top of the distributor. It is possible that has a fault or bad connection. You reminded me of what I was told about the 19TRS when I got it she had similer problems but I swapped the module out as I had a spare good one knocking around.
