BX 19TZI auto 1992

Post by PannyM »

A Happy New Year 2All BX'ers! :D

Bought this on eBay having owned a 16TRS and a 1.9D before.
It looks well maintained & has a low mileage of 63K on the clock.
In the MOT garage now as it needs a CV gaiter,a few bulbs & LHM!
Makes a squeeling noise which I think indicates a tight belt or lack of LHM to power the steering!(?)

Welcome any general or specific advice on how to keep this classic motor on the road for as long as possible!

Cheers! ... Panny

Welcome Panny, is this the one from wales, you outbid by quite a bit but well done, youve got a lovely BX there! Very rare too, took me 4 years to find one! Welcome to the club, as its been sitting make sure you get the cambelt and tensioner changed and check/replace the autobox fluid with the correct type asap!

My own TZi had a very similar problem, it was just the belt was loose.

Its already famous!

Dextron II

Note too that it's entirely possible that the plug (which in a 5.5 mm key-sized one) has been rounded off in the past, so take care. Replacements are available from ZF/Volvo: I'm going to order some later this month for distribution to us 'auto' members.

As mentioned make sure its Dextron II, not just ATF, anything else will kill your autobox off soon enough!.

Dear Roverman Phil

I see you have a cross section of models!
Thank s a lot for your very welcome advice!I shall follow it immediately!
Yes it is the one from Wales!
Shucks,I didn't think I had overbid by a huge amount!
Prices must be very very low for BXs then!
I paid £3K for my first, a G reg TRS back in late 80s early 90s!
Then £800 for the diesel in 2000 before it was a hit & run write off!
... & now £206.01 ... looks like they saw me coming every time!

Take care ... Panny

Well, if it's any consolation I came within a hair's breadth of buying a TZD Hurricane for £6,000 in 1993/4.

Lol i said you outbid me, but at £206 it was complete bargain, I was on a very small budget.

I paid £2500 for one back in 1998 which I still have.
