Wanted: Heater Resistor/Transistor

Does anybody have a BX heater resistor (or is it a transistor?) going spare? The one that screws into the back of the blower.

I've confirmed its broken on my BX and i'm soooo cold. Although GSF still list them, they no longer have any left.

If it's not blowing at all, take it out and re-solder all the connections of the PCB and clean up both side of the metal disc that's in there, I think you'll find that cures it.

I've found that only when they fail and you've got full blow are they knacked.

It's a PNP transistor in a TO3 case - I replaced mine with a heavier duty version from RS but I'm buggered if I can find the details at the moment. I cross referenced it from the part no. of an original transistor and replaced it with the highest current rating one I could find since I am running twin fans.

I have what Ian wants but I think it's a dud anyway, but it's easy to hand so I'll try and read the transistor part number.

Many thanks for the responses, i've been offered one now. He's going to check it works today for me.

Very interested to know what this aftermarket type resistor mod is? Could turn into more of a problem in a few years when theres no spares left.

Agreed. Have moved it now! (People should still be able to post in this section, although not start new topics - please let me know if this is not the case).

To add to Brian's list is the part number FW26925A1.
For further information I replaced mine with this, which has a part number of MJ11015 and can take 30A. Apparently the standard transistor is also used on A/C cars with twin fans, so overkill really.

I have to wholeheartedly agree with VANNY.

This is a definite resource which needs to be expanded so if any component parts are available for whatever is on a BX we need to try our best to list them here for future reference.
