Red TZD Estate

Post by roody262 »

Am now the owner of a TZD Estate as per this thread

http://bxclub.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11451

The description in the advert seemed to unravel itself as soon as we arrived to pick the car up with a few extra "bad points" being added to the list.

A short list of essential and not so essential repairs to be made including changing both front wheel bearings and lower ball joints (our local citroen specialist providing the press). The oil filler tube and dip stick arn't in far enough (don't know why) so the dip stick doesnt give an accurate reading. Will be getting a pair of new sphere on the rear. All these parts are on order from GSF. Power steering was a bit notchy last time I drove it, hopefully the warmer weather will sort this out. The boot latch is a bit loose, the bolts holding the latch on dont seem to go in far enough. Not sure why this is.

We have a set of 5.5J silver alloys that will be refurd'd and fitted. Also the stereo needs some sorting out as the previous owner had fitted an old sony headunit and CD changer (can't find the changer though, but have yet to empty the boxes of spares out the boot. The wiring for these is a bit of a mess, will be replacing this with standard ISO harness.

The car has also had the drivers window replaced with a bronze smoked window (if thats what you call it) instead of the green tint on the rest of the windows, would be nice to have them all match :)

Of course the car will get a good clean up inside and out which no doubt will bring up some more bad spots but so far the body work seems in good shape, no excessive rust anywhere and no rot setting in. The car is going to be used by myself traveling between brighton and hertfordshire. Will try and get some pictures in the next couple of weeks when I go home.

Nice one. As many on here will attest, finding a good BX these days is getting herder and harder. Stick with it and you'll have one in a thousand (literally - in a couple of years maybe)...

Have hit a bit of a stand still with the car recently, have been focusing on the ZX over the past few weekends I've been home. Head gasket went so had to remove head etc.

Bit of an update of what has been done so far. Got the Speedlines back from the refurb place and managed to get hold of some suitable wheel bolts, these are now fitted to the car and look ace! Replaced the headunit with a sony one and given the inside of the car a good clean, it has come up very nice. Hub bearings have been replaced as well as the lower ball joints.

The bad bit... Whilst attempting to replace the rear spheres, one of the spheres seemed to be completly stuck onto the cylinder unit. Tried many different methods to remove to no avail and finally ended up making a hole in the side of the sphere (honestly it was solid on there). We now have a replacement cylinder and piston assembly from Edwards & Sons (essex) so the plan from now is to remove the old using careful applications of extreme violence and fit the new along with replacing both rear hydraulic pipes.

Hopefully get the car back on its feet soon as so I can give the outside a good clean and take some proper pictures.

Couple of pictures taken on my iPhone, hence the poor quality. Just to get an idea.

Cheers, am home this weekend to fit the new rear suspension and have ordered both rear pipes, should get those tomorrow or monday. Any advice for fitting the pipes? I'm guessing its quite a simple process, just follow the route of the old pipes. I would guess theres only one way they will in anyway.

Dad went to Edwards the other week, he described it as Citroen heaven!

Hi,

How much did the wheel refurb cost?

I did mine myself and it took ages. they are not perfect either.

The red estate looks very smart from here. bodywork is key, everything else can be replaced if you have the time.

The refurb was about 200 quid for all four wheels. They had them for 3 days and were spot on when I picked them up. Had them done at A10 Wheel Refurb. near me.

Yeh, the body work is very clean on the bx, infact most of the car is in very good condition! Will get some better quality pictures soon.

Well the BX is finally on the road after wrestling with the rear hydraulics for the suspension it now has new pipes, spheres and cylinders on the back. Also new discs, pads and wheel bearings, we also had the backing plates zinc coated and have sprayed them with hamerite.

Today managed to give it a very quick clean inbetween sudden down pours of rain and then drove it up the road for a couple of pictures and heres the result.....

Still jobs left to do, the fog lights are in but there was no wiring so I need to work out how to wire them up. Needs a proper clean, polish and wax to get it looking its best! That will hopefully happen soon if the weather clears up!

She's looking great. I am glad that she went to a good home. However, it is a tad unfair to accuse me indirectly of falsely describing the car on eBay. There was nothing wrong with the rear suspension (apart from being a bit soft) but I guess, once one starts poking, additional issues (such as crusty pipes) do present themselves.

I have replaced the BX with a 3-year old C5. The ride in the LHM BX is far better than the strutted LDS system.

I do still have the spare key somewhere. If I uncover it, I'll forward it on.
