Cant Log On

At home that is, my pc decided to reset itself just as I was logging on to the forum and ever since I cant sign in (at home). Each time I try it just reverts back to the log in screen.

Help!

Try logging in to check messages rather than just logging in. Sometimes works on other forums I've found.

Ive had to change browser to use BXC at all.

I used to use ie7 then ie8 then it would not log on, no matter what i did, deleted cookies, faffed about lots of ways. So i tried firefox as i have that installed anyway, didnt work either, installed google chrome, fine, working as i type this (as an aside chrome is a really fast brower in comparison to any others ive used)

I assume you tried deleting ALL cookies and ALL Temporary Internet Files?

Hi Tim,

I've just managed to reproduce this on a laptop and I think your problem is to do with your computer's disk-cacheing.

If you go to the TOOLS tab on the IE menu bar you'll find an option to delete stuff like cache, cookies, history, etc. This is stuff your browser stores on your hard disk rather than keep reloading down the telephone line it every time it's needed.

The prob is, it gets filled up.

If you empty it all out (you MAY need to reboot) you should find you can log in again.

Im back, and now with google chrome, err how does it work, where do I save my favourites and how do see what sites Ive visited!

We are having chaos at work at the moment with our users selecting alternative Web browsers courtesy of Microsoft complying with the EU ruling on browser monopoly, then calling us with questions like you just have, on browsers we have never heard of. Aaagh, why can't the EU keep their hands off !

It must be a government thing. They can't run an IT project without wasting several billion pounds - so they don't see why we should have it easy either!

Theoretically I am all in favour of competition as the driver of progress and cost reduction etc, but in the real world, there is a lot to be said for standardisation. eg it would be hopeless if all car manufacturers used different screw threads.

In this case we have several commercial web apps which only work on Internet Explorer as the software houses just have not got the resources to support many browser flavours, so my company cannot change. VHS won when Betamax / Video2000 were better etc. Law of the jungle?

But equally bad, surely if they all had to buy screws from one supplier?

I'm all for choice and competition, but would like to see more compatibility...

All web browsers should be able to cope with what the internet throws at them - it's the nature of the beast after all.

I'm afraid that some web developers rely on browser specific functionality which is the mistake of the designer, not the user - in my opinion.

Whilst mucking about with different browsers why not think about migrating to Linux? There you have a truly democratic operating system, and you can even run Windows in a 'box' should you need to. I moved to Ubuntu 5 years ago and I've never looked back. No viruses, no trojans, in fact no security issues at all.

To my mind, Microsoft software is all shirt and no trousers!

That's the problem, deviation from the standard.

I've got a load of choice of television sets, but they all usually managed to decode standard signals thrown at them.

Round the house are: openSUSE 11.2 KDE, Ubuntu 9.04 Gnome, Asus Linux EeePc 900, Nokia E61 Symbian S60/3 and Windows XP Pro SP3.

Every operating system has it's use even though some get more use than others.
