Another HP pump question

Post by Linegeist »

Having now finally fitted a 'good' HP pump, I've noticed several benefits - smoother and lighter steering, quicker rise times .... the usual suspects.

The thing I didn't expect was to find that car still up on its toes in the mornings!

I thought the sink rate was determined by the amount of leak-back from the suspension units and the doseur ... period. It seems from this however, that the pump can also play a part in retaining circuit pressure while at rest.

I remember that spinning the pump by hand while priming it at the fitting stage, caused it to emit a very distinctive 'farting' sound reminiscent of a one-way valve operating in a liquid. Anyone know if this is the case or have I, as usual, got my head embedded up my gonglepooch again? :?

Perhaps when it starts to sink, and the height correctors want more pressure, the feed is opened back to the pump, and can flow back wards as well as forwards?

any work on the hydraulic system seems to lead to the car keeping it up longer for a while, suspect it wont last long though...

Has your hood got anchor points? :)

My, we are a load of peculiar people. I wonder if owning a BX is the problem!

I must get out more, or change my day job.

Linegeist. ..Apologies for diversifying on your post.
I hope all the previous replies on Viagra and rubber gimp hoods have solved your farting pump problem.

Back to your thread. The pump is a rotating lobe and piston design. Unless the pump has been fully cleaned internally, the small remaining resedue of LHM induces a suction noise when rotated by hand.

Kind Regards

That's interesting! I thought the pump was a swash plate design - sort've like a Staffa Motor but in reverse.....

Hmmm ...... but does the pump hold pressure (in the cylinders for example)when not being driven, or does the internal pump pressure immediately fall to zero once it stops being driven?

(Please don't apologise for dragging the thread off topic - that's half the fun of forums in my little world  )
