Mulley, how do winter tyres perform when it's dry?

Depends upon the air temperature, above 7deg'c & they feel soft & a bit floaty which you get used to, below this temp then they feel pretty planted.

Because the compound is very soft, to avoid wearing them out, i tend to slow down more for corners, not because the tyres dont have the grip because they do, just so they'll last.

I've had this set for 2 winters already (it may even be 3?, i can't remember tbh), so this will be their 3rd/4th season & i suspect it may be their last outing. However, what i'll do is check them in April next year for wear, if they are too worn for next winter i'll just use them in the summer until their down to the legal minimum & then i'll swap over to my vredesteins & purchase some more winter tyres.

They have proved to be so handy, whilst every other pratt on the road is struggling, that i wont be without winter tyres ever again, best investment i've made. I think i paid £28 each, however i'll probably try a different brand to see if they are even better, but i've been suitably impressed by these Debica's.

By the way, they are great in wet conditions, zero aquaplaing as the tread depth is very deep.

I've never used winter tyres, and never had a problem, but then we dont really get winter down here!

Maybe winter tyres would perform better in the dry if filled with nitrogen?

@ 108412 changed the oil from 10w 40 semi to 15w 40 mineral, will see if that makes any difference to oil consumption/leaks etc... Changed the oil filter along with the fuel filter (recycled an old fuel filter, by cleaning it), total cost was approx £12, aaaaaah cheap motoring

Just out of interest, is it necessary to change the oil filter every 6k along with the oil, or can it be changed at 12k instead whilst continuing to change the oil at 6k?

And, can oil filters be cleaned out & re-used?

Only reason for asking is not just to save a few quid, but more from an ecological point of view.

Luving the snow in the bx, not had a single problem unlike the rest of em driving around as though they are bambi on ice

Hopefully found a decent garage called Frontlines, today i got the driver side strut return pipe changed as the original (approx 2yrs old) was porous, this was a gsf cheapie, obviously not upto the job. I would have done this myself, but lack of time & shitty weather stopped me. Other leak diagnosed as leaking suspension return pipe, the one that goes into the height corrector. Octopus was found to be ok, so this was repaired by cutting the damaged part off. Replacement pedal box fitted, at last i have power & i dont have to push the bloody throttle pedal towards the brake pedal to get the car to move, feels like a turbo under the bonnet now. Had to have a litre of lhm added as well. The old pedal box will be welded to fix the crack & then returned back to me. Also checked the front subframe bolts as i felt they were loose, apparently one was, so thats been tightened up, so i'm hoping the mildly annoying clonk sound that i occasionaly get is now banished. All in £112, not too bad

I supplied all the parts except the lhm.

A couple of days ago whilst braking i noticed quite a loud pulsing sound from the back of the rear car, suspect rear brakes, perhaps a cracked disc? No time & weather is against me, so back into frontlines today to get sorted, glad i've just been paid my bonus, unfortunately most seems to be going into this motah
