I wouldnt worry about it being an estate, I would worry about the 4x4 bit alot more though! mind you as the 1.9 carb fed one is the least powerful BX with AWD I wonder if its less likely to go twang?

It looks straight enough, although the interior looks rather filthy, I have one of those door trim strips if anyone buys it.

Ray, if you want a 4x4 then i'd recommend you grab this one while you can, they are so rare its untrue. You may be waiting a longtime before another appears, & it may have a knackered exhaust & buggered transmission, this one is apparently working, so go for it :D

The only worry i've got is that its been in storage for 10yrs, however it does come with a brand new mot which helps a bit.

If it stayed at £400 (and I had £400 spare which I don't) I'd go for it! My plan would be to stick 19RD badges on it and fit an Mi16x4 engine and transmission for a strange Q car. Wouldn't be that fast really with the extra weight and transmission losses, but would be an interesting engineering project...

Budgetary contraints mean I can't buy anything at the moment (SWMBO isn't that thrilled at me buying a 3rd car as it is... ho-hum...)

It does look quite nice otherwise though, although having an XM and also a CX Prestige (the long one- vicar!) means I really should only look at a smaller-sized car, not an estate.

I hope it goes to someone on here though, as it'd be nice to see it cared for, preferably with regular photo write-ups :)

Does anyone know what make of carb it has and what sort of MPG it returns ? And does the 1.9 petrol engine last as well as the 1.9 diesel ?

On that age its a solex twin choke, which can be problematical, MPG is about 25-38 I expect depending on how you drive it. Regarding what lasts better, diesels are known for longivity, BUT it depends on how well its been serviced as they need the oil changing regularly etc. Phil Chidlows GTi 8v petrol has done more miles than nearly every other BX I know and is still going strong, but this is down to being properly maintained by two caring owners from new. I also owned a 16 petrol that had done huge mileage but again had been maintained by a mechanic.

Thanks for all that info - much appreciated. 'Solex' and 'problematical' definitely belong in the same sentence from my experience - oh for a Weber.

Is that not the same one as listed last year?

Obviously they didn't shift it. Definitely worth a punt but I'd say its already on the pricey side depending what needs doing

I'd be a bit worried if it's stood for a while as I wouldn't fancy the exhaust lasting too much longer.
Ordinarily on a run of the mill car it wouldn't be too bad but on that it will be an arm and a leg job, and probably a kidney or two as well.

Does anyone know if there is a Weber conversion available for any of the bx Solex's?

I was chatting with Andy (Andy's Autos, Woking - ex Citroen, likes the BX, and always does a v. good job on mine) - Solex and Weber were fitted at various times on various models. Sometimes when a car was being supplied to a good regular customer and it turned up with a Solex they would swap it for a Weber at the dealership - not straightforward though - it's a change of manifold to accomodate the new carb.

I you're thinking of making an adapter section to fit a Weber make sure there is a reasonable length of inlet between the carb and the manifold and it's in a reasonably warm place to aid vapourisation. Also make sure that all the coolant system is completely clear of crud - the auto choke is driven by the coolant temperature. Replace the anti-stall diaphragm because the slightest leak will interfere with calibration. Adjust, or get your local garage to adjust the mixture to within a gnat's b*****k of maximum CO at tickover and you'll get excellent MPG without sacrificing performance.

Hope that helps.
