BX 4tc being used in anger, Group B rallying from 1984-1986

Post by DavidRutherford »

Something I recently got hold of: Group B Rallying highlights from 1984-1986. There's all the usual suspects in there; Audi Quattro, Lancia, Pug 206 T16, Early Subarus, Opel Manta, Renault 5, Metro 6R4....... and the BX 4tc!

Not much mind.. about 4 appearances, but they seemed to be fairly competitive.

Anyway... I have this as an Mpeg, it just fits nicely onto a CD-R, and there's 90 mins of Group B highlights on it. Oh, plus the Top gear report about the 2cv 4x4.

If anyone would like a copy, either to see the BX 4tc, or just to be aghast at the insanity that was Group B, then paypal me a quid for a CD and postage, and you can have a copy.

For those here too young to remember group B, (says he... I was only 12 when it was banned!) it was essentially 350hp of car heading straight towards people stood in the middle of the road, who jumped out of the way at the last second. BLOODY scary stuff to watch. There's little wonder it was banned.

I spectate at the bigger rallies sometimes when they get up to North Wales, some of the spectators seem to have a death wish, it must be a right pain for the drivers.

I remember watching the old Lombard RAC rally in a small Villiage near Machylleth about 15 years ago.

WOW that was good. Watching Gwyn Daf Evans in a Sierra RS500 and a very young Colin Macrae in a Sierra XR4x4.

I remember Penti Arrikola in a Mitsubishi Galant which i was amazed by as it had 4 wheel steering! He crashed it badly not long after i saw him but still finished the stage.

Carlos Sainz in was in the Toyota Celica Turbo 4x4.

Tommy Makinnen had a cute little Mazda 323 Turbo.

please send to: david@fastandfurryous1.demon.co.uk

whilst that *should* give me your address too, if you can send me an email with your address too that would be useful.

Ta.

Ooh.. while I remember, it is actually a french video, but there is almost no narrative on it at all, which is nice as you can actually hear the cars giving it "hell-for-leather"! The only bit of french language is a 30-second interview at the beginning.

I'm out all day tomorrow, so will burn as many copies as needed over the weekend, and send them all on monday.

Machynlleth used to be the capital of Wales, just thought I`d impart that worldly piece of knowledge on you. I also bought my Cavalier Calibre from there and used to call to Gwyndaf Evans` garage in Dolgellau once every four weeks to service some garage equipment. I bet you really wanted to know that didn`t you?

I`m up for a copy of the DVD BX thingy too, I`ll sort something out later David.

I finally got round to having a look (been busy) and it flatly refuses to play, either on my machine or my girlfriend's. Both running XP. Bloody media player :(
