Two black 4x4's on ebay at the same time, whats the chances, not the best advert and crap pics, sellers feedback isn't fantastic.

On the plus side, manual choke and lots spent.
Lots of Motors, mostly semi broken....

The auto choke is a lot less reliable than the manual. If you want technical.... someone else will have to enlighten you :)

As scarecrow says the solex carbs play up with age and the auto choke have a tendency to work when you dont want them too and not when you do! So a manual choke is a bonus.

I'd say no !

Not just because I'm an obstinate so-and-so though I'm sure there's an element of that :-)

Steve and Tim are right - the auto choke does tend to play up with age - Solex and Weber do.

When the auto choke starts to play up the easy fix is to fit a manual one - but the fact that it's playing up means that something is going wrong - and that may not be just the choke itself - it may be the coolant system clogging up and that will affect the reliability of the heater and the efficiency of the manifold heating system leading to poor fuel economy.

I'd say if the auto choke is playing up then find out what's going wrong and fix it !

I'd agree /\ If the reason something no longer works is a design fault, then fair enough. But if it worked when it was new, in an ideal world I'd prefer to get it working as it should. That said I do miss pulling out a choke knob - fortunately the van has a manual cold advance knob on the diesel pump, so I can indulge my wishes that way!

I was going to say that you could come and pull the knob on mine if you feel the need - but as you are happy with your own....

You would have to buy tax for it, as I found with my first car that was in the same situation – I just looked at the date on the disc and did not realise until I sent in my V5 and they informed me I needed to change the vehicle class.
