Ebay acquisition.
Hello BXers. I have just bought on ebay a 1993 TZD Estate from its original owner. I just love it. The first car I ever bought (all Citroens) my dear old mother (now 87) LIKES. She just loves the magic carpet ride and the way it can be raised to get her in and out of it. Alleged to need a new PAS pump (yes I know the pump does everything so isn't really a PAS pump) but it turned out to need only a new accumulater sphere - £30 from Pleiades fitted. Poor old Betsy (my 2cv) is getting jealous 'cause I go everywhere now in the BX. Why didn't someone tell me about BXs earlier?

Hi Charles - welcome to BXClub
Neighbours of mine are in the process of selling their Skoda Octavia estate - one of the reasons for changing cars is the difficulty getting in and out ! And these are young and fit people !
So thanks for reminding us of something most of us probably take for granted
Nice car Charles - long may it run
And the front doors open to nearly 90 degrees as well. A while back I used to give a lift to a workmate who was suffering from a brain tumour and who had lost some of his agility as a result - he used to comment about how easy it was to get in and out of the BX.my dear old mother (now 87) LIKES. She just loves the magic carpet ride and the way it can be raised to get her in and out of it.

Thanks everyone for the wonderful welcome - one from an old Citroen 2cv friend whose acquisition of a BX earlier this year actually did start my interest (I'll ring you when opportunity coincides with memory). I just had to find the right one and judging by all your comments, I have! Yes, it is the one pictured. Apologies to kermit for pipping him at the post.
With the sudden reduction in temperature, it is proving to be a pig to get the engine to start from cold. Glow plugs you will say, and it probably is, but I notice that the glow plug light does not always come on either when its very cold outside. But it always does when the car is warm. Any thoughts, chaps? Also, the second position of the ignition switch does not always switch the starter motor - almost certainly the starter solenoid, but are the two problems linked? The two problems don't appear to be connected, but what do I know

Hi Charles
Try cleaning the connections on the relay that powers the glow plugs.
It is usually blue in colour and is bolted to the front panel near to the NSF headlight. ( it has a plastic bag type cover over it)
It is vulnerable to damp and crud in that position.
Another thing to clean is the conections on the top of all the heater plugs.
If this makes the light come on every time the trick to getting a diesel started is to watch the light and when it goes out count to around 10 and watch the dash lights at that point they should come slightly brighter.
If you then start the car it should start without a problem.
As regard to the starter problem try first cleaning all the connections to that and the main earth wire which is bolted to the top of the gearbox.
All these connections and the battery its self are critical on a BX diesel
I hope this helps
Also be sure to disconnect the battery when working on the electrical system as there are constant live wires to both the heater plug relay and the starter.
Regards Kermit / Phil

I remember that chanding the glow plugs on my (admittedly non turbo) BX was a doddle; two of those on a non turbo ZX were a serious pain; another good reason for a BX - not that this is enough to persuade senior management. BX spare wheel carrier clips are sensible with a wheel nut on the top end; newer citroens have a rounded slot which is a pig unless the carrier bolt thread is well greased - which it is on our Berlingo. Preventative maintenance pays dividends -

You had the one and only opening bid, you didn't actually expect to secure it for such a small sum (Even for Yorkshire man) surely ?

The /\ quote from THIS thread for ref.ken newbold wrote:..........................
I've bid on it already but I'm waiting to see how the bidding goes before going any further.
If I'd got the space, I would have bid on it too, to a max. of £650 which I'd valued the car at, so Charles very well done for securing it for a bit less and that it sailed thro' the MOT,
well done on a super example for a very reasonable amount plus its got the very special sought after armrest too
Back on topic, with the poor starting issues in the current lowered temperature's it could be dead glow-plug's or fuel shut off solenoid problem as already mentioned above. As this is a common problem which has been discussed in the past !
I therefore suggest you take a thorough read thro' these threads, I'm 99.9% sure the answer/fix will be contained within one of them.

Is the igniton switch OK, these have been known to go and is a commom link to the 2 problems?Charles Vacy-Ash wrote: I notice that the glow plug light does not always come on either when its very cold outside.
