With a normal "push" type clutch, I'd say it's not even a 1.9, and is probably a standard 17Turbo engine.

It's been really hacked about too. All the pipes and the driveshafts have been cut off.

the 1.9td doesnt have the clip on cambelt cover if im correct so i'd put money on it being a later (thermo housing) 1765td. looks like its been stored for some time!!

using ones head, has PSA ever made a 2litre diesel anyway? 1.4, 1.5, 1.7, 1.9, 2.1, 2.2 didnt think there was a 2litre derv?

Some early 1.9Td engines do have clip on covers. These are from late 1992 to mid/late 1993. They are rare though, but worth tracking down.

And yes, PSA have made a 2.0 turbo diesel, but only since 1998 in the HDI range.

Reply from seller to my question over engine size.......

"It was out of my dads BX, so I definitely know that this is the case. He told me that it was a 2 litre, but other people have now told me that it is only a 1.9 so I think that this is the case."

Any chance that this may really be from one of the almost mystical late BX`s with 1.9T/D engine fitted? If so I`ll have a stab at it but if it`s a 1.7 then no point as I have one of those!

Citroen UK say there are NO 1.9TD saloons ever made, they 'think' there may be some 1.9TD estates, but then thats Cit for you they make so many specials they tend to forget! However if you write to the DVLA i suspect you'll find no 1.9TD BX's have ever been made in any silhouette.

Besides which that engine looks to have stood for quite some time and looks a bit of a wreck. While that doesn't mean anything, if thats the way the engine was looked after then i suspect the innards will be much the same! Better still its probably been stored with plenty of moisture and oil and no 'inlets' sealed so will be a bit of a lemon by now!

I know one thing. I would have to be desperate to buy an engine I haven't heard and seen running, even for £20. Be ok if you just wanted the starter and alt off it.

Have to say I`d agree with that Ken which is why I believe that will either get no bids or won`t go much past start price. I just thought that had it actually been a `genuine` BX 1.9T/D (had there been such a thing) that it would have slotted into one of mine just nicely.
Looking like I`ll be keeping the TZD now, I keep looking at it knowing I`ll regret it if I sell it. If I can persuade Super Vanny to knock me a sphere removal tool up I`ll have a go at them prior to visiting BX club Wakefield as the ride is bloody awful at the moment. It needs to go to the unit and stay there anyhow, it`s just a time thing at the moment. Some very recent eBay bargain purchasing (not BX`s alas) have pushed the TXD to the back of a very long queue.
