Hi,Kevan.
That /\ is correct, your White 'N' reg. is a TZD TURBO hence it's 1769cc rather than 1905cc which is NA, also it has an Autobox which were never married up to the 1769cc Turbo oil burner's (Also note the large clock in lieu of the Rev. counter with it being an Auto) !

I can think of one turbo diesel automatic that has a rev counter.
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

Yeah I'm thinking of fitting one on our TZD auto, all the wiring is there, as is the wiring for the clock in the centre. :)

This one infact. Started life as a 19TGD auto, slow, thristy and a bit crap, so after lots of faffing around with secondhand Xantia boxes that went bang I rang up Citroen and ZF and said "build me a box mate, I want it done like this..."

I had to supply a box casting, since ZF dont make them anymore, and 3 months, and quite a chunk of change later, a built to spec box arrives on a pallet. Slightly beefier flexi plate too.

It's off the road at the moment, just done a spot of welding to the sills / wheelarches, just needs painting up and stone guarding now, it's a beast, and I'm rather unashamably proud of it.

ZF is a local company based here in Friedrichshafen on Lake Konstanz/Bodensee which is also the home of the Zeppelin by the way. Did they build the custom gearbox here in Germany?
I've actually got a brand new ZF auto box that was supplied but never fitted at the local Citroen stealers and after sitting around for ages went and sat somewhere else. It hasn't found it's rightful place yet!

yep, the old casting went off to Germany, and returned three months later looking rather shiney and built to spec, although in retrospect I should have made top gear a bit taller, if I get a large amount of cash again I might get them to knock up another epicyclic set with better tuned ratio's.

I do rather like ZF, and indeed, the name gives the location away, Zahnradfabrik Friedrichshafen AG, the AG I assume is Automotive Gears or similar?

The bus has a ZF, and I dont believe anyone has ever made a better auto box for a commercial ever.

Is your new box a diesel one Todd?

EDIT: I believe ZF made the gears for the Zepplins?

AG means Aktiengesellschaft - share holding company. And Zahnradfabrik means 'toothed wheel' i.e gear , so Toothed wheel factory
I'm sure they do make the gearing for the Zeppelins - there's a lot of light engineering industry in the whole area inc. Dornier ( remember them?) and just a bit further north Heckler & Koch armaments ( in a nice Black Forest village!)
I don't know if the gearbox is petrol or diesel - I assume the former as the guy it came from always had petrol Bxs though it was his brother who salvaged it from the stealer and perhaps he just didn't want to let such a thing go. How would I identify what it is, is there a specific code?

An early Dornier product!

I know this sounds bad. But i wonder how many more bxs are out there. Who had older people using them. But have passed away. Its wiered how some people are like that. Noticed more older people. Where they dont change there cars. Just keep them to the very end. I suppose in the long run its the best way. Just imegion how much money you save.
