I really like these base model cars ,theres something really fresh about them and they look so different without the black trim.

High mileage but another base model.

That break's done 450000kms and still rolling ( though I'm sure it needs a bit of attention). Bloody brilliant. You must take the plunge Richard and get yourself an early one!

By the way, I've only ever seen Mk.1 Breaks in their most basic guise. Mine is also Pov spec though I'm hoping to upgrade it if I get the proposed donor vehicle.

Hi Todd,Ive got a Mk1 16RS Auto which is in a right old state.Dont know if I would be better crossing the channel and picking up a LHD one without the rot?

The Break isn't far from me in Normandy, if anyone fancies buying it I could arrange to pick it up and find somewhere to keep it for a while...

Well, he wants 300 euros, so that's about 250 quid, three shekels and a groat.

Trouble ive found with contacting people on Leboncoin is that with my French being so poor, they dont reply.Like will he take offers ,problems etc.I dont know how to ask,so i usually ask if they know any English?
But its really tempting .

No problem - quite happy to give the seller a bell. May be over that side of the department in the next few days anyway...

The estate's only about half an hour from the ferry...
The other one's halfway down the west side of france.

Between the two, must be a few more to make up a convoy!

Just called the owner of the estate on Richard's behalf. Bloke's a monosyllabic fuckwit, but hey, let's not hold that against him. On the other hand, let's...

It's either a 14RE or a 15 (he can't remember). Says it sailed through the Controle Technique last time (but then anything that can move will pass a CT...), has three new tyres, goes well. That's about all I could drag out of him.

Not in France... I'd have to make sure I tortured him enough to get him to sign the paperwork over to me first. Hmm, there's a thought...

Daftly, here the paperwork is so important that if someone croaks, there's absolutely no way even someone from the same family can re-register a car in their name without official permission from the solicitor dealing with the succession. Even if it's registered in joint names, the surviving partner can't sell it without an official document saying the other partner can't sign the papers on account of being dead.
I know of a Traction Avant that's been in a little old lady's garage since her husband died in the seventies. she never bothered sorting the paperwork out when he died, and now it's effectivelt impossible to reclaim its identity. It'll probably end up sold for spares when she shuffles off.

That may explain why I sometimes see early 2CV & similar projects for sale for so little - they would be virtually impossible to return to the road I imagine. They may actually be easier to put on the road over here, for now at least!
