coin tray is pants

Post by johnbird »

After transfering all my stuff into the bx I set about making some changes to the boot to allow bungees to secure all my stuff, flkuids etc. The cabin has some handy door pockets for torch and ice scraper. I always like to carry a little cash in the car so if I forget my wallet or driving bag I have enough for a gallon of fuel and a pack of fags for her majesty-she is prone to requesting me fetching her some, why are women so disorganised?-so imagine my dekight that the car has a dedicated coin holder...... Except you cannot fit a two pound coin in a quid will fit every other slot in one section.... I have been reduced to filling it with 50ps And twenty ps. I reckon there's less than a. Tenner in it. Francs must have been thinner and smaller? Anyone modified one to work better? In the meantime I'd best remember my wallet!

As you suggest, 10 Franc coins were slimmer than pound coins. 2 Euro coins are slimmer than 2 quid ones as well, so they fit fine. The smaller slots were obviously for smaller denomination coins, the point being that in France there are a lot of toll roads so you needed a lot of small change. I usually put anything that doesn't fit in the coin tray in the ashtray instead, since it's never used for anything else.

The ash tray solution has an obvious flaw! Her majesty will very soon have filled it with dog ends and I will get dirty hands trying to find the money in the dog ends. Pleasew don't try to suggest that she doesn't smoke in the car as she is in the smokers forever militant wing a small political organisation who have been ewxpelled from barder meinhoff for holding too strong views on pro smoking.............

:o Smoking in that lovely BX, i'd bleedin turf her out. Re-sale value will plummet as smoke in a car is a real bitch to remove. Infact, i personlly wouldn't ever buy a car that had been smoked in. What a shame, you really need to buy a shed on its last legs & then no one on here would care. Seems a real waste of time you doing all this work on a great conditioned car if its going to be a rolling ashtray

I smoke in mine all the time, and my best loved passenegers are dogs.
Doesn't bother me.
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

Hi huys, had no idea smoking in a car was such an issue  the mnem saahb has smoked from the day we met. I too was a seventy a day man back then. She has smoked in the tatty transit van I wooed her in and in the 42,000 audi a8 that was her daily drive. (Its now parked on the far drive retired and waiting for time) she has sat and smoked in all my cars including the 99 I'm working on whilst she bled the brakes. I wouldn't dream of making her stop. I bought the bx as transport. Its in nice condition and I'm hoping it will be no worse when I sell it but its a car. I didn't want a skip to drive as it has a 300 mile a week job of work to do. If it helps I will suggest she opens the window.if the car had air con I can see it getting into the system on start up but I buy a cannister to clean that out. To be fair this is the first car we have bought for a few years that's not had or has had retro added by me leather. I haven't smoked for 18 years and can't smell smoke in her aero? Maybe I should get my nose looked at. As for damaging her majestys health I fancy it will take more than a marlboro light to knock her off her perchh :)

For the Love of Bob

The coin tray was designed BEFORE the Euro or indeed Pound Coin and Two Pound Coin were introduced.
Fill it with OLD style 5p 10p and 50p coins - they fit fine.

But, you're never going to sell your car on, so it doesn't really matter.

This chap is just using that lovely car as a hack before selling on, why bother sprucing it up anyway if its going to get smoked in?? Waste of bleeding time, i might as well add nitrous to my txd & start taking it down to santapod, oh & by the way she'll be in fine fettle when i come to sell to another bx club member in a few months time  No takers :?: Come one, i only caned the car for a few months, she's allright  Mind you, i never smoked in it

Sorry John, but i just don't get it.....if it was a shed, then fair enough, but that looks mint. Just my opinion of course & it's your car & you can do what you like, just don't expect to come onto an open forum for enthusiasts & for no one to say anything & then you get pee'd off with mine or anyone else's comments about what you are planning to do.....

tell you what.pay me what i paid for the car plus 100
quid for my time in fetching it and you can have the car.
i never set out to upset anyone.i never saw the car as a good example of a bx but as a good condition car to do a job of work-300 miles a week commute- at 50 to the gallon.i do like the shape and i am a fan of all things eighties hence the saab but nothing is original forever.the saab has a turbo motor fitted and not a single carb non turbo.its interior is changed, not original wheels or spoilers but its still a nice car. we carried two wet labradors on the rear leather seats of the a8 when it was still a new car.i have no intention of letting the ash trays overflow as i am very keen on a clean tidy car,but i wont stop my wife who i think the world of from smoking in a car. i am surprised at the level of hostility one throw away comment has been greeted with.
if i fit a temp gauge it wont ruin it and a 405 gear knob will unscrew when the time comes to sell it.you never know i may take to it and keep it as its a hoot to drive and corners really well.
