That's surprising / interesting - is that because it operates too quickly do you think - perhaps not allowing enough 'off' time to regain grip ?
Not so much regaining grip, but it does seem to kick in long before I'd expect the car to loose grip.
The TD has no ABS, and I've never had a "FUCK!" moment in that, whereas in the 16v I've had 2! Largely because the ABS kicked in and combined with being near the edge of grip anyway it didn't really loose any speed. Fuse out, no problems!
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

Add ABS to a 4wd with an automatic gearbox and you got a guarentee of an accident in the snow.

Your not the only person who takes the fuse out of the ABS, its common practice here by the local vehicle rescue service. (unless its to late).

Probably explains why the cop car Holden v8 Comod had so much difficulty that allowed me to get passed and laugh at his erm slipping problems  the Auto box probably didnt help him much either

The only thing i know about snow and ABS is that about 10 years ago i crashed my CX Gti turbo into the back of a mates nissan almera, cos the snow confused the holy crap out the ABS and it basically just didnt brake. How we laughed.

Put it this way. My Land Rover had to drag my BX off our driveway when we had about 8 inches of snow. Guess that proves which is best! BX has proven itself very good in snow previously, but was completely flummoxed by this last lot - chains now purchased!

BX versus landrover

Post by mike22861 »

A few points my BX Gti 4x4 has abs which i anacronyse as Absolutely no Braking when Slippery while driving under power the awsome potential of the 4x4 drivetrain has a habit of lulling you into a false sense of grip until you press the brake pedal. I'm used to it now but in the early days many times did i fly past junctions having pressed the brake and found no braking to speak of you kinda learn to cadence brake with the handbrake or allow an extra 100 yds or so braking distance.
Secondly as an avid landrover fan I have to say both the Landrover and the BX are parked side by side on my drive pop out to the BX put the key in and drive away even in 8 inches of snow sadly not the landrover plenty traction and grip just a broken gearbox phenomenal capabilities spoiled by british build quality.

Snow Chains + BX = better than a 4wd without chains.
