I'll be havin' that I hope.
If it's old stock some of the solvent may have evaporated - from memory it's acetone (it's basically yellow nail varnish in a 'manly' bottle  ) so it's just a case of adding some solvent and giving it a shake. I keep various solvents such as acetone xylene and MEK if that's useful to you.

Thanks. I think I'll see how it is, but the Dupli-color paint option looks promising too.

There's this avenue to explore too.

... or theatre lighting gels...

There are 4 or 5 'main' manufacturers and you may be able to find a light yellow which would look good but not reduce light output too much.

Lee filters is a part of the company I work for, and we have all these filters in stock but rapping them directly round the bulb is no good you need an air gap, were you thinkng of sticking some over the lens?
Anyway we get plenty off cuts if you want to try?

As far as I'm aware, Lee is the longest established gel filter manufacturer and their '101 yellow' would be the one to use. There's a High Temperature range - HT 010 Medium Yellow would do the job - maybe a little darker than 101 - HT 007 Pale Yellow would cut out less light but may not look right on the car - maybe too light.

Yes - they'd have to go on the inside of the lens not around the bulb - you'd have to split the lens from the reflector to fit them.

Headlights can be either white or selective yellow for a UK MOT.

Yes, a John and Benny Lee Company, couple of London gansters who started by nicking lighting equipment off the BBC and renting it back to them & ended up buying Panavision of America untill the writers strike in America brought it all crashing back down, I worked / work for Lee Lighting now Panalux lighting division of Panavision.

What's not to like

The closest I got to the film industry was a contract with Sammy's - I finished the development and build of their mark 2 video-assist racks - nice folks and an interesting project :-)

'101 yellow' would be the one to use.
I've just looked at the Wiki page on selective yellow and it looks as though Lee 104 would be closer to spec. I still think that would reduce light output more than neccessary so I'd still be inclined to use 101 or the very slightly lighter 100.

with all their equipment being bought by Lee's
It's a small world :-)

I doubt if the kit I built for them is still around - I did 'phone them a few years after that contract to ask if they were ready for me to do a mark 3 rack for them using computers and frame grabbers instead of Umatic VCRs :-) but they said the mark 2 was still going strong.

I've still got a Sammy's coffee mug and a copy of the service manual for the racks - wot eye rote :-)
