That cracks me up - the seller could only be bothered to take photos of one side of the car - no front and no back  Still, doesn't look too bad, apart from the first signs of rust in the bulkhead. oh, and it's a 16. :P

Edit: spelling, duh!

Looks tidy enough, but i just can't understand why people don't take a little more time to prepare a car for sale. Just look at the interior- not exactly sparkling is it. :o

Sheer laziness i guess & not realising that a bit of elbow grease can add value to a cheap car. I suppose its good news for buyers though that it'll put people off being interested so will go for a lower price. TBH, at least that ad has more than 1 picture, & they are in focus & theres some description, i just love the one's that don't even have a picture or any useful info, they rarely sell

On the face of it, it does look like quite a nice one, & perhaps these day's ignoring a 1600 petrol might be a shame as they do drive quite nicely & aren't all that rubbish on fuel & at the right price will make a nice classic to own on a limited mile policy to take to the odd few shows each year.

Once they're gone, they're gone.

A thorough valet and some MUCH better pics would do wonders for it, nice car, and dont be put off that its "just a 16" had a run in mine today and forgot how "perky" they are.

For some reason I thought his was an Auto, its not, so its the exact same spec etc as my first ever BX, same colour, model, year, plate etc.

Wish I had £500 spare!

At last it seems that prices (and even a petrol) are on the increase. He does say on his reply to a question that there is a little rust to the windscreen pillar but very minor .It also looks to have the handle protectors fitted? Sounds a very nice car.

I'm currently the highest bidder on this one and i really like the look of it. I've talked to the seller a couple of times who's a mechanic and knows the cars somewhat. I've tried to get as much information as possible from him but I'm now worried because of James's experiences in walking away from what looked like a good 16v.

I can't feasibly look before buying as i'm in Ireland so i have to buy blind. I've tried to get as many statements as i can from him to cover myself if anything is amiss when i go and see it/collect, but i'm now wondering whether i might be mad.

Morning Max. He hasnt put any detailed photos on which worried me.No pictures of drivers side at all? front ,rear, and he has said theres abit of rust on pillar but again no picture, just silly pics of the car going up and down and we all know they can do that!
Can you ask him to email you with better pics?
It does look a nice one though, but why wouldnt you take pictures from all sides?
Richard.

Hi max, good luck with the bidding, I think with a proper valet and a bit of TLC that could be a minter.

Hi Richard,
I wondered if the front of the car was a little low as well in the normal and high height pics, but it could be the light. At least not far off anyway.

I just texted him asking for detailed pics. He sounds pretty straight on the phone and has said he'll change oil, filter and coolant if it needs it, i've asked him to look at all these and he's given me a pretty detailed idea of the rust. If he gets irritated by my questions at this point that might give me some indicator especially seen as his reserve has been met.

It takes a few seconds apparently (when cold - unusually) to start, ok when hot. He said he'd had experience with the auto-choke on BXs in his past so he might try adjusting it, although it's probably best i get a Citroen specialist to do that and check the timing / fuel mix etc.

In my experience there are a few things that should make it less of a risk.
First, you have been in communication - and I assume you've had reasonable replies. The car looks OK, from what can be told from the pics. In fact, it looks pretty well cared for. Second, it has 1 previous owner.

Also it's hardly unusual to find rust on a BX

Consider too it's a 16; probably not a car that could have suffered at the hands of a budding Lewis Hamilton, although 'one lady owner' most certainly isn't a guarantee of immaculate condition!

It has BX wheel trims, which is nice... and shows it's owner(s) have some affinity with BX-care.

However, I can understand concerns - especially the lack of o/s pics, but a verbal/written assurance that nothuing's amiss would generally satisfy me, when all else seems straight up. It has service history and MOT too, which is another reassurance.

Maybe even given the above, if the ad was worded by an illiterate prat I wouldn't bother, but the description is a little more encouraging than that valvers...

Max, I'm sure you'll consider all the factors and make a decision that's right for you.

Phil, I believe Max has bought this one, If I've deciphered the recent Forum/E-bay activity correctly !

I also see Richardd1652 (5***a) has pushed the price up for Max some what unnecessarily (Richard ! Why don't you let occasionally some of the other BXC members get a bargain buy off E-bay sometimes ?) it's NOT as if you desperate for a BX

As Max stated in the 16v E-Bay listing THREAD:-
maxgreenwood wrote:Well keep us informed how you get on with it.

I really fancied it myself, was bidding, and lost out to you by £20 :) Sorry if i pushed the price up but i reckon you got a bit of a bargain there, i have a good feeling about this one.
