Right!

Tomorrow i will be flying into Leeds to pickup my new ebay purchase, all being well, a manual 16TZS in white. (see spotted post) Some people round here think i'm mad. I only got rid of my last BX a few months ago, which of course i am regretting as it was a pretty well sorted TZD estate with no serious rust.

So i like the look of this one, particularly the styling of this model in white. I'm hoping it won't be too thirsty (carb set up ok) and also hoping it will make the trip ok, I'm imagining hot starting problems (although seller says it can be temperamental from cold, but hot ok) leaky rubber returns or catastrophic HP pipe fracture

hopefully not.

I remember a thread a while back on this topic, couldn't find it, so ....

What are the essential emergency repair items for collecting your new BX purchase? (preferably fitable into-able ryanairable hand luggage)

So far i have:
(axle stands)
screwdriver(s), spanners, chain wrench, small socket set, allen keys, leatherman
jubilee hose clips
i might take some large fuel hose for temp. return repair.

If the mix on the carb isn't quite right, i've read here not to necessarily adjust the screw as it could be the autochoke, whats the best short term procedure ie something i can do pre-journey. Or best not to fiddle?

Max, they won't let you take a Leatherman in your hand luggage nor anything reasonably sharp - possibly not even screwdrivers? I had a pair of nail clippers recently confiscated before a flight and they were bloody good quality ones too!

Have you got any kind of recovery cover? Though I'm sure everything will go Ok. Good luck!

i've now been reminded i had actually realised that earlier. I'll have to swallow the screwdrivers then.

Don't forget the laxatives for when you need them in a hurry...

thanks Mat, that's very kind. I'm actually thinking about 'popping' down to Wolsey House Motors (3.5 hours from York) - (5.5 hours back to Holyhead) to look at a couple of things they have there. Lot of driving though.

Good luck Max! hope it work out well, wolsely house motors is an awfully long way from leeds mind! May be worth getting her home first as its a bit of an unknown quantity.

thx Tim, yes that would be the sensible thing to do, might even make the 5.15 fast ferry then, back in time for tea.

They'll come out quickly enough if there's a catastrophic failure of the hydraulic system whilst driving on the motorway lol.

But seriously, all you need is a recovery policy in place, a litre or two of LHM, maybe a pocket full of some wire, tape and cable wraps, spare bulb(s), a pair of work gloves and a rag or two. As for screw drivers etc. buy a 'disposable' cheap set, stock up with a bottle of antifreeze/water, while your over here. I'd take a torch too. And maybe a Haynes manual?

you have no chance of getting lhm fluid wire or cable ties onto a plane.no chance of any tools either.rac card and a mobile phone are your friend! max you should have bought mine,20 marlboro and a cd you like and possibly a packet of wine gums would have bee all you needed.

yes i'm planning a quick stop off at GSF on the way for some stuff.. works out a bit cheaper than here as well.

John your car is very nice, but i've already had a TD and want to try something different, and a really like 'em in white, esp the TZS model with plastic c pillar windows. I'll see how i get on with it.

Will it replace the XM? That's what my other half is counting on. Don't know if it will happen though.

What you say is interesting, Max. My wife, Liz wouldn't drive the XM. Didn't want to - almost entirely down to the parking brake, and being a manual, the hill start issues - in traffic especially.

Is the XM a man's car?

By the way I wasn't suggesting taking the LHM on a plane, but picking it up on this side. sorry!

breakdown cover - even if it's only for the trip home has to be worth the money.
