I saw this in the flesh when it was for sale a few years back. Great, not perfect (not as immaculate as the TGS auto I had at the time) but pretty damned close to show room. This could be a concours winner.... and for me that's the problem; every 1,000 miles of daily use will erode it's value - and condition - and for me that was what stopped me buying; apart from the £1200 price tag at the time.

Its an 8 valve, so i doubt it would reach valver money, but then again i haven't seen any valvers go for that sort of money either.

I suspect that there is a ceiling price for bx's at the mo, with the less desirable models now attracting more interest as they tend to be lower mileage examples & so they seem to be catching up the more attractive models, whilst those havent gone up by the same degree. Hope that made sense

It is worth around £900-£1200 IMO. If it was £1,500... still wouldn't surprise me. Find a 16v in that condition with that sort of mileage and it could be pushing £2k?

Paid £1600 for my ph1 valver last year off ebay in a moment of madness but to be honest i don't regret it for one moment. Lovely car to drive and always attracts positive remarks which you just don't get with a more mundane car.

I feel a tipping point has been reached with prices for good BXs now as good ones are much harder to find. This looks like a good early Gti. May it find a deserving owner!

Low mileage original cars are so rare now, I expect that to do well, and so should, a very early GTi indeed and just LOVE that dash! (ok its not a mk1 but hey)
