So let me get this straight - you want a picture of my hole?

Not sure I have a photo TBH, but I drilled it where the angle of the shield changes, basically where I judged it to be the lowest point. I'm guessing diameter to be about 6mm - not so small that it clogs up easily but not so big that it stops protecting the cylinder.

It seems like a poor bit of design as the dissimilar metals with damp mud inbetween is a recipie for corrosion. Mind you the vehicle is probably past its design lifespan by the time failure occurs...

Not bothered whether it gets moved or not, upto your goodself.

Today, Shaune kindly fitted the rear psgr side curly brake pipe. Had to use some heat & a hamer to free up the rear caliper brake nipple, which eventually came out

Those pesky clamps that hold the pipe in place were akward to get to, so removed the spare wheel & carrier to get a bit more access. Luckily again they did come out with plenty of wd40. By this point the pipe actually snapped where it had been leaking from. Good 2nd hand pipe was fitted.

Another strange anomoly was that we used a very good conditioned different brake nipple from another caliper, & even though it was done up tight it weeped lhm out of it, very strange. So Shaune put the old mangled one back in, copper slipped up so it should come out easily enough if required.

The clonking saga: It appears to eminate from the front height corrector. Not sure why but it does make quite a clonk, Shaune had a fiddle & reduced the amount of clonking that it made, but didn't want to move the height corrector too much incase it caused an issue. I'll post this up on the tech section query anyways.

Very pleased to have a working car back on the road, looking forward to driving her this week to work & back, cheers Shaune

I don't understand how the height corrector would be clonking - against what? How did you ascertain this?
Right behind the height corrector is the R/H tie-rod inner section with perhaps a cactus'ed clonking ball-joint in it?

Cheer for moving my drivel to the correct section, just got to remember to come into this part, i didn't this 1st time round

Today @ 126394 i did the 126k service, changed the oil, oil filter, fuel filter & hoovered clean my k&n air filter. Topped up the lhm & hopefully off she goes for another 6k until the same again. So for under £20 all in, jobs a good un.

I think i'm getting spoilt with this servicing melarky, everytime i hear of someone taking their car in & it costs them £hundreds

i just don't think i could bring myself to pay for servicing ever again. Unless i won the lottery of course

I think I'd still do my own servicing even if I did win the lottery - it's almost theraputic in a way. And I wouldn't be working for a living, so time wouldn't be as much of an issue.

Although there may be a few more exotic cars in the fleet to service...

was it another rear caliper? Because tfront and rear nipples are different.

most likely a tad of corrosion or crud then.
I had similar experiences when I fitted shiny new nipples on the valver, 3 of the 4 leaked!

Spent some time cleaning up the landing surfaces and hey presto, all was good again, although I did spemnd quite some time swearing, but then, I do that anyway!

Frontlines replaced the main octopus & the small one on 03/05/2011 , so hopefully they'll last another 18+ years, mileage was approx 127480.

Car went in for its mot today with a pass, one advisory regarding handbrake binding slightly, mileage 127495, hopefully 12mths good service to come again

Mot man mentioned that the front discs would need replacing this year, luckily i've got some new ones in my garage to fit during the warm summer months ahead.

It's about the typical price these day's for an indie. They are £40p/h +vat so £48, erm i wonder how much a citroen dealer is??

Even the cheap garage that i use is only £8p/h cheaper, they used to be about £30p/h not that long ago.

When we 1st got the mini it was £90+vat p/h, gawd knows what it is now, must be well into the 3 figures

So on that basis they are probably less than half the price of a stealer, & as long as they fix the problem i suppose you can't complain too much. I did mention that in the nicest possible way that i hoped not to see them for a while

Peter mentioned that he was going to go for the Wetherby meet in his old van, i think its a dyane one?

yes i think he likes his van a lot. His son works their too although he drives a Fiat

Sadly he doesn't have renault 'clip' so my faulty handbrake needs to go to the dealer or a specialist in Ilkeston.

Do you need the handbrake? If its mega bucks i'd forget it, i've managed without one for a while now & whilst it feels odd at 1st not using one, you soon adapt tbh. So come on then, when are you getting a bx

& are you going upto wetherby?

Frontlines managed yesterday to get the height of the car correct, the 1st time the front struts must have been sticky because when it settled it was bottoming out way to easy. Thanks to Riku's info regarding the actual heights, printed it off & took it in its been measured up & is now within the tolerance range. It now appears to be fine & able to cope with Sheffields roads once more without me losing my fillings
