Are genuine any better quality & longer lasting than the usual cheaper priced one's that frequent e-bay frequently? I've had a look at different sets & tbh i can't tell the difference by looking at them. Just intrigued as originals are quite a bit more expensive.

All brake discs should meet the same minimum standards - how much they exceed those standards will vary. Not personally seen evidence of this with brake discs (however my background is metallurgy) but I would expect poorer quality material to be less uniform in its structure. Cooling rate from molten iron can also affect this. Depending on levels of segregation, some areas of the disc could be harder than others, and hence lead to variation in thickness with wear.

I only use OEM quality brake parts i.e Lucas, Bendix, Girling etc. after having quite a lot of experience of cheaper quality parts failing much sooner with discs in particular warping after only a matter of weeks.
Buying any type of brake disc online is never feasable because of the weight / postage costs, in this case £17, you can by a set of OEM discs for £17 from your local motor factor.

We bought our VW Bora new in 06, and the front discs started causing judder within 12000 miles. Needless to say the dealer didn't want to know - until the warranty had expired - then they wanted £270 to replace them. They got a bit miffed when I suggested they ought to consider autocopulation as an alternative to my continued custom. 
I did the job myself (in an hour and a half) using Brembo discs and pads from a local factor, all for £65, and they've performed perfectly for the last 20,000 miles.
As a rule of thumb I've found that pattern consumable/disposable parts are often fine (unless Chinese, in which case why not just set the money alight and at least enjoy the warmth from it) while durable parts are worth paying more for in order to get genuine spec stuff.
Just my experience.
