Citroen GTi Register

Post by Philip Chidlow »

I'd very much like to kick this off... who wants to be the third entry on the list (my two GTIs are there already!)?

To recap:

Anyone who wants to go onto the register as a Citroen GTI owner, please send the following to: citroengti@btinternet.com

• Your name and (approx) location • Model designation (include auto if appropriate) • Year of registration • Acquisition date • Registration (put asterixs in place of the numbers for peace of mind) (and note if SORN) • BX ORGA number if appropriate (stencilled inside passenger door frame) • Colour (plus code if you have it) • Interior trim • Approx mileage • Any notable options (e.g. A/C) • Any modifications • Other comments • A picture would be good too...

Once I have a few I will email the members of the register a PDF with all the info on it for checking... In time I will provide a link for users of this Forum to a download site.

Please let anybody you know who has a Citroen GTI (be it AX, BX, CX or Visa) about this...

Yes, I think GTs should go on. Basically 'cos they also have (most of) the 'squggly' GTi logo!

I'm not having an overwhelming response to this idea (with a notable exception Rob), so I guess the concept is possibly flawed... However, I ought to point out the purpose of the register in my mind: It is purely a record of GTIs on the road. I think resto projects are OK but only if they have a realistic chance of getting back onto the road.

Why have a register? Well, it is cross-model and will encourage awareness of the Citroen GTI 'era' models. Apart from that it will provide a database for those GTI owners who wish to possibly learn about models other than the one(s) they have. This is true in my case - I'd like to find out just how rare the Visa GTI (in roadworthy order) is. I might want to talk to a CX GTI owner ('cos I'd really like one!) etc.

Anyway, I think I'll probably leave this register idea dormant but make a reminder posting every now and then.

The truth is I just wanted to design the logo! (Only kidding!)

Anyway - there's a bit of good news - I discovered today that a neighbour of mine has a pale blue 77k-mile 1988 CX25 GTI Turbo 2 in his garage and it's well over halfway through an extensive restoration. And he's promised me a drive in it when it's finished. Now that'll be good. And when it is on the road I'll ask him to join the register!

Yes, I agree this register should contain info mainly about GTIs on the road. All this info about scrapped cars is interesting... but at the moment the scrapped / untaxed cars seem to outnumber the alive, on the road ones.... :?
