This is a point me and Todd always disagree on; I hated my BX diesel without PAS. I bought a 93 registered nearly new TGD from Citoen Manchester just because I fell in love with the look of its gleaming silver paintwork combined with tinted windows and grey tweed interior. I took a test drive up Princess Road (1 long straight road) and retuned to do the deal with rose tinted glasses on not even realising it wouldn't have PAS but after 6 months I couldn't wait to sell it and buy a higher mileage older one with PAS. I think the price at the time to have new PAS retro fitted worked out about 2k.

I correct my previous comments about PAS - not that you need it ( some ladies might!) - but I just looked at a non PAS rack against a PAS rack and you can't just install the ram onto the former. The whole rack must be changed but if you've got the pieces I don't reckon it's 2k's worth of work! Unless you're charging 350 sheets an hour.. I think perhaps a day's work to do the conversion?

Ken, I'd say two thirds of that would see it in your drivewayI think if I had 15 hundred quid I didn't know what to do with, I would!
Do you mean different engine as well - TD would be clutch and gearbox as well?Engine out straight away and retro fit PAS.
Todd, you're more of a man than mePersonally I don't have a problem with steering by Armstrong
I was quite surprised at how completely different the car felt to mine. Like a much bigger car, a combination of the steering and the leisurely power delivery. However, if i hadn't got my recent white one i probably would have gone for it and talked to WHM about fitting PAS cos i think it would be worth it. I just want to see it go to a good home.
If they really want to move it on i think they'll accept less than they're asking for it. It's quite a trip to view tho. If anyone has any questions PM me, I found out everything i could. I may have been fighting its corner a bit on here but there will be very little work to do on it even as a daily driver as long as the rust is sorted.
Having sold the XM for a decent sum, I'm spending more money on my BX at the moment than many people on this forum would find reasonable! I was considering getting this one instead / as well and using it as it needs nothing doing.

I agree that yellow one is rather special. It will be worth something in a few years time. I'm a little bit jealous of it actually. You need a classic 80s Nakamichi stereo in there with a fat wallet of era-defining CDs.

I've got a nice rig in there - an early 90s Grundig radio/cassette with a mini-jack input for the MP3. It's not like modern ICE but it's pefect for me - 4x20w!!. All my old bangers have the same Grundig set inc the Merc, all gradually collected from ebay for sub €5. Clip out front and code system is a joke though these days on such old kit!
I don't think the 'yellow peril' will ever have any value as such but I treasure it as I'm cutting it to pieces - I cut out the rotten rear arch and wing section today, cut the matching shape from my breaker TRD ( far too good to break and a Mk.1.. too late) and transplanted it in as best as possible! I'm edging towards the testing station..
Too right. Don't we all?You need a classic 80s fat wallet

You mean a Stavros edition Indian orange leather one with 'Loadsa Money' in embroidered sequins on the front. Tim Roth is reaching for it now.
yeah i want to get a decent sound set up in mine, nothing too fancy, the doors might need some deadening reinforcement for anything speaker wise from the side, which i'd prefer as opposed to the parcel shelf route, although i've never heard that set up, I'd prefer some stereo image to extend down beyond tweeter range. I got some great mid and tweeter speakers for the Saab, they all go in the top of the dash, although it really needs some kind of sub under the seat or something as the dash holes are only 4", and the bass is, well.. i think my imagination is working hard.

that car was great. i spent so much on it and everything that was done was replaced with new. as i would not do second hand shit.
Yeah, come on you bunch of girls!
I happen to agree that PAS BXs are much better, having owned both... I can say the non-assisted steering is not actually that heavy. Although mine was the lightweight 14. I've been told the diesels are much heavier. The worst thing about it is the turns from lock-to-lock.
Let's be honest though, this car is really a one-off. You aren't likely to find another one any time soon... So if you want a Mk1, all I can say is, you will learn to live with it.
Want to continue this in a new thread?? I'm in the middle of sorting my BX out in this regardrayfenwick wrote:...lots of interesting stuff...

agree with that ^^. non PAS on a nice mk1 is not really an issue, just not for me at the moment.
I'll start a new thread re stereo setup, very interesting info Ray, i think you've got the knowledge there. I think i'll get one of those compact Blaukpunkt subs for the Saab, maybe i can get a deal on two!
Should get mine back from the garage tomorrow with new clutch and cambelt, looking forward to it, then it's to a trusted local and very reasonable mechanic for welding €€€
All will be well in the end

But still overpriced. I was tempted at £800 but decided at the time it was too much and reckon it's more of a 5-600 pound car.
Although now the Isle of Man Government have decided to stop the 25 year rolling car tax barrier and fixed it at 1st Jan 1987 it suddenly becomes more appealing. I'm left with a whole load of cars which I was anticipating to be cheap tax in the near future which I will have to continue to pay hundreds of quid for every year now. Grrrrr.

We've got the 30 year 'oldtimer' rule here in Germany which continues to run - at the moment. Hope they don't suspend it like you're saying in The Isle of Man.
I'm trying to get my '73 Merc van through the 'oldtimer' test at the moment. The vehicle has to be not only 30 years old but in original and well maintained condition.. weldy, weldy
