Post by madasahatter »

Strange i know but what is a BX hatch RD?? Is that a non turbo model by any chance???

Anyone let me know about them??

Have found a 2 owner from new for very little money sub 350 with 6 months MOT and garaged since '96

Yes it's a non turbo 1.9 NA, it obviously delivers it's power in a more sedate way and is not as smooth or free reving as the turbo engine but it is pritty bombproof and will still eat up the motorway miles. I have an auto 1.9 NA which is slower still and absolutely love it. The 1.7 Turbo in my TZD is much more akin to modern diesels but there are many on here who do prefer the 1.9 NA.
The only thing that would put me off would be if it has a lack of PAS?

Not necessarily... The RD is just the trim level, so could either have the 1.7 (1769cc) N/A engine or 1.9 N/A engine. It may even be the rare RD Turbo if they just haven't mentioned the Turbo part?

I'm sure Tim will be along shortly to give you exact production dates and quantities! :P

So what sort of economy would i get from it on the motorways then??

No power steering is not really an issue really......

Very economical - 55 mpg? A bit challenged on long hills on motorways - slight drop in speed but in Uk I can't imagine that's an issue. I proudly cruise the autobahns in a BX RD without gay steering either. I keep up with the traffic with the whole family aboard, obviously I don't compete with the Porsches and suchlike but it's not a milk float. ( It is actually fast compared to my Merc bus which pulls an impressive 20mph up hills)
It's the most simple and reliable BX in my biased opinion!

I'm thrilled to bits with my 1.9 n/a TXD. I am easily achieving 48+ mpg mixed driving, so expect 50 mpg easily achievable on the motorway.

I used to have a 19 TXD - about four or five years ago - 'GRX' if anyone remembers it, but I don't remember being quite so impressed. It's probably because I have got older and fuel is considerably more expensive!

I had a St. Tropez without PAS and frankly didn't get on with it. But I guess it's down to how slothful, lardy and southern one is.

Evening all,

If its a Mk2 19RD they have power steering, as matt says it could be the even rarer 60bhp 1769 non turbo lump which is a very sweet unit but no speed machine. They did make an RD Turbo which is the same spec as a 19RD but with the 1769 90BHP engine and rev counter and digital clock.

All RD models had

Central locking

Electric Front Windows

Power Steering on 19D and 17TD models (mk2)

I would expect it to be a 19RD as they are the more common model, if its a 17D then drive it first as a oil burner with out power steering can be a pain!.

Good luck.

Show off

Sunroof and tints (with sunblinds) were an option, not sure about the seat.

I average anywhere between 50-53mpg doing my daily commute to work & back which is a mixture of driving. Motorway driving i can get 58mpg as i drive quite steady as the engine noise isn't so bad when doing 3000rmp in 5th gear, that equates to 63mph  This is in my 1.9n/a TXD. Never had the tzd on the road long enough to record any details & fuel was a damn site cheaper then so i never bothered....
