WINDOW FRAME PAINT

Post by Tim Leech »

I shall be replacing the drivers door on the GT some time this year with a new old stock as the one fitted has seen better days and been patched up a few times and I want the old girl looking A1 for the 2012 ICCR.

Does anyone know the correct paint code/formula for the black paint around the door tops please to save me getting all four redone.

Cheers!

the formula for mine would read something like 'matt black plus 20 years worth of scratches and sun fading'!

The only possibility in the code list is under:

'Stylised areas - surrounds' Black. code EXX

There's also Black code EXA for steel rims and Black code EXY for alloy rims.

Gibbo.

Although... It could be Anthracite Grey (ETV). That's what early estates were finished in. Most of mine are grey of some kind!

Must admit i think re-done it would make any BX look quite a bit nicer. Tim, take some before & after pictures so we can see the effect it has made :D Are you going to do it yourself or will a pro be doing it?

I tried to touch up my TZD's fading black trim 2 years ago, using Halford's matt black .... and it lifted the old paint off like stripper.

What I have used successfully is Duplicolor matt black spray paint. I think the code is 0-50.

I tried to get some paint made up today for my door surrounds but EXX is no longer available because the grey in the mix is lead based. Gratified as I was to discover that EEC mandarins have taken steps to make sure I don't drink dangerous lead based paint from a bottle (!) - I used Halfords 'Silk Black' intead. Looks great. (Oh and polished off half a bottle of cellulose thinner with my lunch - safe in the knowledge there was no lead in it!)
