17TD  , but I get what you're saying. People get silly about cars. I've just sold my new rear bumper, and with painting etc. I can well imagine it costing nearly £200 once hung on the car. How often can you get a new rear bumper? A second-hand one costs around £50. And painting isn't cheap.

Is it a 1.7? Stuff that then, I thought it was the 1.9

I agree that a new bumper all painted up could cost £200, perhaps more, but AIUI this was the cost of a used bumper that would need painting.

Not to worry anyway - it sounds like he'd only let it go for silly money. Yes, a good BX is going up in price, but with everything this one needs, it's not such a good BX...

Don't be tricked by the lower capacity of the 17 - they are a different beast to the 19 altogether ;)

Ray, the 17 is turbocharged mate, its not a 1.7 n/a model & of course there were no standard uk 1.9 turbos fitted either, they are all n/a's. I think you've had too much petrol ownership

The 1.7TD is the same as the TZD Ray,
If it is his pride and joy perhaps we should aim to try and help him repair / keep it rather than prize it from his grips? Could we not point him in the directioin of this forum and get him a bumper and some assistance from here for much less than the £200 he's been quoted?

According to the aforementioned mate, "he's been doing his research, looking on the BX club website and things like that"

So I'm guessing he's read every word anyway... in fact it could be your valuations that have changed his mind - remember he was expecting £600 as it is...

I'd have no objections to him fixing it up and keeping it, but if it's only going to stand there rusting and eventually get weighed in then it would be a pity.

As I see it, either way there's no harm done by trying to negotiate a fair deal for both parties.

And let's not forget that it was (another) mate of his who stopped outside Graham's whilst we were working on my BX and asked if I might be interested in buying it...
