Active members who never turn up
Turn up at the CCC National Rally I mean. I've been going for a few years now - 2011 will be my sixth - and there are some members on here who I know live within a couple of hours of the venue(s)... so, why not come along? For instance: Way2go must be what, 100 miles max from the venue... so let's see your BX GTi auto - heaven know's they're rare enough now! Let's try to have a GREAT BX TURN OUT THIS YEAR. Next year's will be different because of the ICCCR (although it will be the 30th Anniversary of the BX - so even less excuse!)...

Certainly will be. But what it will be is yet to be decided!Paul296 wrote:Any plans for a '30 years of the BX' type thing at the ICCCR?
I fancy seeing a row of BXs of every type/every year... but it is difficult to see how that'd be arranged given the international aspect. I imagine it could be a display about the BX with a handful of 'landmark' versions. It'd be good to have some sort of thread to discuss options, closer to the time.

A great BX turn out would be fabulous, especially as two very prominent BX'ers are running the show.
Dont forget this year its £5 on the gate for the WHOLE weekend plus camping, and a £1 strip of raffle tickets could give you £150 back in your hand plus lots of other stuff.
It does seem that the same people show up each year, and very good it is to see them BUT, theres quite a few regulars on here that are still very much an "enigma".

I'm usually a regular at this, but we're off to the Austrian Alps on the Saturday (no not in the BX).
I have to say, some people are very short on spare cash, Phil, and have to pick and choose what events they come to, if at all. For some people, there are regular family commitments that mean they can't come, or it's too far, or dare I say it - attending a (CCC) rally is just not their bag....
Re. BX at the ICCCR: The G/Ami Section is planning a presence at the ICCCR and at the moment the plan is not to hold a G/Ami Rally in 2012 and concentrate efforts on the ICCCR.
Mark.

For a minute then, I thought you meant me! Then I saw you had put Matt instead of Mat...Susan Donym wrote:also ,
there are some people like Matt who really shoulden't be allowed out in public
I don't think we can (or should) encourage those that don't want to go (for whatever reasons). The way I look at it is, if it's publicised wildly enough then we can all make up our own minds.
That said, there are people on here I wish to meet someday; and I do hope there is a good turnout at the National!

My sentiments exactly. No way would I want to coerce people to come except by their own volition - it's just that it'd be (selfishly) nice to put faces to names - and see cars I've read so much about.mat_fenwick wrote:...there are people on here I wish to meet someday; and I do hope there is a good turnout at the National!

Sounds like Phils missing the old girl, had enough of the diesel wagon and is on the hunt again!Philip Chidlow wrote: For instance: Way2go must be what, 100 miles max from the venue... so let's see your BX GTi auto - heaven know's they're rare enough now!

Of course I miss her! Very much. But the diesel wagon has wormed it's way into our affections and I have to say it's a pretty capable and versatile car, BX or otherwise.
I had a strange hankering after another GTi the other day but it soon passed... until I had an even stronger urge to revisit 16v ownership once again...
but my doctor tells me the drugs will keep that under control.

I'm not going this year, unfortunately i have other more pressing engagements to attend to.
What i would say to anyone who hasn't been, and is wondering what the fuss is about, just GO!
They can be a bit hit and miss, some are amazing, some are just good. There is the element of putting names to faces (if your like me you'll forget the faces and the names come 1am), the social interaction with like minded people. There is the group therapy sessions where you realise your french tin is no different from everyone else's evil / selfish / useless / possessed /money absorbing habits. There are the bargains you never knew you needed in the auto jumble. There's a good laugh to be had at those that love there cars just a little too much, models you've never seen, and usually a few cars you wonder if they actually have a valid MOT.
Then, for the brave, there is the evening, drinking, camping, chatting, 'socialising' stuff, which you'll get up with a hangover from, yet be so infused with love for your BX that you'll immediately come up with a nutty yet amazing project that you have to start.
Quite frankly the national is an event i hate missing, this will only be the second I've missed since i found out about them. So, take my advice, if you have any doubts, just turn up and prove me right!
