Got me a BX!

Post by anaconda »

Im an owner, once again, of a BX TGD and delighted to be joining what is now a rare driving breed. Chuffed as bits to be back in the world of Citroen after a year off since selling our DS. Ebay, £770 for a low mileage car in very good condition.....assuming the seller was being straight! Will be picking it up next week and cant wait to start gliding over the miles.

Doc had a look at it for Anne Marie...

"It's not too bad, about par for the age really. It's NOT rust free, but nothing horrific yet, that said, it looks largely unmolested, which supports the mileage, but could mean big bills soon for aging bits.." Depends how you prioritise, I guess. No car as old as this will be trouble-free.

I was told there was some surface rust around the door frame corners (usual spots) and a little on the hinges which i'll deal with quickly. The service history and maintenance record is excellent. Im not expecting any imminent big bills, but yes its reasonable to expect to fork out on older cars every so often, particularly if its gets used like all BXs should be, rather than sitting on the drive.

Ultimately if its not sold honestly when I see it, then I'll just walk away. However, based on discussions with the seller and indeed your comments, ive no reason to suspect that.

Excellent, it's always nice to get a one owner low mileage example, From experience the only thing apart from any usual rust areas I would expect needs looking at with that mileage is possibly the rear radius arm bearings.
Good luck, hope it doesn't disapoint.

That does look like a good one - it's 10 mins walk from where I live - I actually walked past it at 3 am this morning and wondered who'd won it!

Nice car

You must get to the national and have a laugh with the rest of the lads
I am doing my best to get there myself.
It really is a good bash and you could sign up for the Classic Challenge 2012.

Cant get to the national as were in France a few days later and its a long drive from Murkyside.

It'd be good to meet some fellow BX'rs, hopefully at one of the northern events.

Picking the car up on Saturday. Pics to follow!

Drove the new car up from Bristol today, a steady 70-80 up the M5 and 6.

You never know what youre getting with ebay, and I went with the expectation of an honest sale but obviously there's always the chance of the seller not being straight with the car details (some might call this 'sales garnish'... ok to a point, but I was prepared to take the long journey home without the car if needed)

First impressions werent good, the seller was going to be late. So we waited in the centre of Bristol, twenty minutes, called back and our seller confirmed his 4.30 arrival, except that it was already 4.30....'oh really' he says' 'oh I'll be about half an hour then'. So an hour and a quarter after our meeting time he turned up. What can you do. Bristol centre makes Birkenhead look pretty.

So the car is really nicely turned out. The only rust externally is on the two body/rear door frame junctions (BX'ers have mentioned this so was expecting, and I understand its a common rot spot). A few surface scratches, some touching up of the rear black spoiler thingy and black sills and really as good as new. Very pleased to see it!. The interior confirmed the low mileage, so all good. Cash in hand and off we go. Suspension stiffer than it should be......are the 'screw end' spheres the cheaper options? Anyway it drove fine, quiet and comfortable as I remember it, but not the carpet ride im after so some tinkering required.

Got it home and jet sprayed the dead mossies from the front end...and it took some of the grey bumper paint off... bummer!..... Citroen build quality.....ouch!

Delighted to have the thing on the drive. Pics soon.

Great to hear you have the car.
If you need to get the spheres sorted i can highly recommend Westroen Services in Manchester.
He charges £30 per sphere and offers a free fitting service.
£50 for a complete LHM change including LHM
And best of all he reconditions them himself to the same standard as Citroen themselves and he guarentees them for 3 years.
He told me they have been doing this since 1989 and in that time they can count on one hand the spheres that have not lasted 3 years.
If they do go he will replace them FOC.
I had all 8 spheres done on my Xantia VSX TD Hydractive2 and it has made the ride like new.
There are only 5 on a BX.
I know it sounds a lot to spend on a BX but the choice is yours.

Regards Kermit
