Injector Replacement/Cleaning

Post by Ian_Fearn »

After a comment made by somebody on the forum i'm going to see if my 4x4 needs some injector work.

I remember a good post from AlanS about this some time ago now (cant find it though!)

Can anybody offer me any advice?

Just take them out of the car to the Bosch or Lucas equipped injector service agent. Can be done inside an hour if you're not placed in a queue.

Cost was circa £70 for ultrasonic cleaning and servicing (replacement 'o' rings, plastic bits etc)

Only difference between Bosch and Lucas seems to be that Bosch fit orange plastic and Lucas fit green.

I watched mine done and saw them operate inside perspex 'before' and 'after'. The difference in the efficiencies of the various spray patterns was very impressive and as I mentioned made a world of difference to performance on my GTi. :D

Yes, see it now buried in the diesel thread. He mentions diy cleaning.
But it is necessary to strip out parts prior to the cleaning cycle for best effect, and these parts are then replaced (ie filter etc) with new on completion. Also the professional machine simulates all modes of the ecu & measures fuel throughput and balance of the injectors.

I can only speak from my experience that although expensive it gave a super result. Cost of the cleaning/servicing of all 4 injectors was less than buying 1 new injector. :D

injector cleaning

Post by Toddman »

These injector are renowned for doing anything other than spraying and often are one of th ecauses of rough idle on these cars.
I strongly recomend using your local specialist for proper testing and ultrasonic cleaning - the price is quite high but hen you look at new injector costs you wil appreciate the difference.
Most places give you a full report from before and after testing as well.

Cheers

I've just pulled my injectors out to find them completely covered in muck!

I'll find somewhere local to get them cleaned.

If that is carbon muck, you may have inlet valve leaks. Alternatively it may be residue from petrol additives or even injector cleaner.
When I previously got the car serviced by a Citroen dealer I complained of erratic tickover & they bunged in injector cleaner. Useless stuff, it only ran better for a short while and then worse than before but it took a long time to understand what was going on, so my policy since I had the injectors serviced is NO to any additives.

My injectors have come back today nice and clean but now i need to get new seals.

Does anybody know where i can get some from?

Citroen want nearly 3 quid a seal which seems a bit extortionate to me.

As I keep telling you guys, you're going to have to find yourselves a half honest supplier of injector parts and auto electrical bits.
The complete set of seals, filters, caps and spacers costs about A$21 ( 9 UK pounds) and that will do all 4 injectors. They are so cheap that my son has bought them as individual items in lots of about 100 each.

Is there a similar business to this over there?

We just bought a new injector for an Mi16 off them and it cost $140 (57 UK pounds) plus freight and Ultra sonic cleaning has to be the greatest rip off of all times.
I spoke to Mike E about this a while back and DIY is the way to go with these things.

I've always done my manually and have never had anything but impressive results.
