Ive just bought a 14RE off ebay for my daughter seeing as i can't prise her out of my Gti hopefully she will join the club now sadly or not its replacing the Activa which has reached the LOTUS stage and has to go

Theres a few threads about in on here, has the old style lay back engine, wasnt a bad old bus and has had money spend on her since I sold it 2 years ago.

cool well it will have a good home tho it will be a mums taxi to my 2 grandchildren I'm sure the Gti will breath a sigh of relief

No cambelt to change, I put a couple of new pipes on it, and I think its had some arm beraings since then too, the boot floor was a bit crispy though.

Cheers fpr that link its frowned upon locking children in the boot nowadays but am sure I can sort it never worked on the suitcase engine but hey a new challenge and it will no doubt be a tad more reliable than the activa that made LHM leaks every hour occurances and broken pipes a weekly occurance not to mention leaking rams faulty turbos etc etc.

They seem very simple, if a little agricultural, the gearbox if I remember was a bit vague, maybe some new bushes were needed.

Manual choke though, started first time every time!

Well usual ebay nonsense may scupper this, its great the seller putting must be paid for and collected within 3 days but not much use if he wont get in touch sometimes ebay can be a tad frustrating

The Re is finally home.
Whover said these engines are S##T must have had a bad one granted it doesnt push you back in the seat but it sat on the M62 and M1 happily at 75 with just a touch of throttle it did the journey on £10 thats about 42 to the gallon .

Unfortunately the seller ran it out of fuel coming to meet me and it now doesnt want to idle I will have a look at the idle jet

It does go well doesnt it!

I would stick some carb cleaner through it, when I bought her we had a similar problem as it had been left to run out and was full of crap.

I thought it went well needs a few jobs its had a good wash and polish cleaned up the rear light connectors fitted a radio . Tomorrow i will have a go at the carb someone has removed the windscreen wash pipe will have a go at making one.
needs the drivers door bending to shape it has been jemmied open recently I will post some pics tomorrow but seems a reasonable car it's not pristine but not unpresentable

Any VERY rare too! probably one of a handful of Mk2 cars with a suitcase engine!
