I stopped by a French scrappers last Sat which had five BXs sat there, almost all of them complete and all special models.
There was a GTI there with the front splitter that is missing from my 16v so I said : I'll get my tools and remove it, tell us what you want for it.
The bloke said he was standing in for the boss and first I should come to the office where he pulled out some ridiculous price guide for used parts that looked like an antique anyway. After ten minutes flicking through this thing and not finding anything, he phoned the boss who after five minutes of thinking came up with €50 for that small bit of plastic!
I suggested he was mad and that I now understood why all the BXs standing there were still complete.
They used to give these things away - most of the scrappers I visited in Alsace were happy to be shot of plastic parts.

/\ was that at 'de Monte' down the road from here? Normally they're pretty resaonable but then I know them. They've given me a few bits too.
I suspect that if I'd been French I'd have got a better price in that scrappers.
As for rear window louvres I think they're probably rarer than front splitters! In that French scrappers the price would be €500.
I know I've got more louvres than I need but no-ones actually shown any interest so far..

There used to be three scrappies locally, two of which were just the sort of place you describe – over-priced, unhelpful. As you suggest, prices come from a trade guide that's published every year, and are usually about half new prices.
The third place was helpful, reasonably priced and the owner loved BXs so was happy to let me rummage around and take my own bits off, which is always good as you get all the little odds and sods you need as well. It was turning into a rapidly expanding business and doing very well. Then someone in the system 'discovered' (or was sneakily informed...) that when the business was originally set up (by a former owner) 25 years previously, they hadn't got one piece of official permission so were missing a piece of paperwork. This being France and therefore the most bureaucratic country on earth, there was no possibility of getting the piece of paper in retrospect, and within six months the whole business had been forcibly shut down. Now the former owner of this once-thriving business that emplyed four people works out of a single garage at home, doing basic car repairs for cash in hand.
The only people this benefits are the owners of the two other breakers, who now don't have any uncofortable competition.
