Day of the Jackal

Post by KevR »

On ITV4 now - featuring a positive cornucopia of classic French (mostly) vehicles, as you might expect. For some obscure reason I've never seen it before and within five minutes it's obvious the cast couldn't be much more wooden if they were made from mahogany, but I'll put up with that for an H van and a fleet of DSs in the first 30 seconds. :D

I'll be alert for it, but that probably won't help much – I almost never watch TV except for the Tour de France and a few other bike races. Day of the Jackal happened to be on directly after stage 3 of the Tour of Britain otherwise I'd never even have know it was on!

interesting, the film is set in 1962, yet in this film there is an abundance of citroen Ami 8's,Renault 16's, DS's with flared in headlights, simca 1100's ect, so early '70's then!!! not that im complaining, its pure bliss!!!! :)

The Roman Polanski film Frantic featuring Harrison Ford also has a good smattering of 80's French automotive eye candy, oh and a Volkswagen Beetle.

Was it a black VW Beetle? I ask as there was a black Beetle in just about every street scene of the film Munich, about the aftermath of the Munich Olympic terrorism, recently. Every scene.

Were there cars in that film..? I can only remember Emmanuelle Seigner...
But then I only saw it once, and that was in 1988 when it first came out, and it was in a cinema just off the Champs Elysées, so I didn't need to concentrate on the cars because they'd still be out there when the house lights went up... 8)

A CX and an LNA come to a sticky end in one of my favourite films; 'Le Fabuleux destin d'Amelie Poulain'. . .

If you get to see Day of the Jackal again watch the train he gets on and then off, (after dying his hair) if I saw it right he gets on one pulled by an old square tanker and gets off a more modern streamlined one.

It was though a good film and I disagree about the 'wooden' acting.

I admit I only saw the first ten minutes (hit the record button to save it for later) but if the scene where the OAS top brass interview the Jackal had been in smell-o-vision it would have smelled of Cuprinol...
