Mint 17TGD For sale

Post by ken newbold »

I know of a silver 17TGD for sale near me in Leeds. The car is virtually mint, I doubt you will find a better one.
It has T&T but don't know how much, nor how much he wants for it, other than to say it isn't funny money.
The drawback of course is it has no PAS :( But with a car this good I WOULD retro fit PAS if I wanted another manual BX

If anyone's interested I can get more details. The car was seen at Wetherby this year.

I have a few details which have been given me over the phone on this, so please don't take as gospel but won't be far off.

Mileage is about 100k
Tax till December
MOT June 2012
2 owners from new.
Loads of service history (may be complete)
CD player, rear headrests.
Price £600 ono.

Location Leeds

I should have a phone number later tonight or tomorrow.

The young guy who owns it has been paying a staggering amount of money for insurance but now is getting a flat very close to his work, so won't need the car, or the expense.

Although I've had lots of Citroens for lots of years on and off, the nomenclature still beats me: is this NA or turbo and what sort of trim level is it. I've previously had a GTi and a 14RE - is it somewhere in between? The 14 without power steering wasn't too bad, is the diesel much harder work?

Its a 1.7 non turbo diesel, which has 60bhp, ok it wont win any speed trials but the 1769 engine is sweet and very frugal, the steering will keep your arm muscles in good shape!

Central locking, electric front windows, no revcounter.
Lots of Motors, mostly semi broken....

I went to have a look at this today and it is a very nice, cared for car. I decided it wasn't for me as I would be irritated by the "steady" performance provided by the 1.7 normally aspirated engine and the lack of PS.

It looks good and drives well. Nice people too and that counts for a lot with me.

Interesting regarding power. That's only 5bhp less than my Mk1 RD with the 1905cc engine. You do learn how to cope with minimal power - it's amazing how quickly you can hurtle around in an NA diesel. Like a 2CV, it's all about conserving momentum. And being patient on uphill sections...

I'm pleading poverty, but this is surely a nice motor for someone?

I don't recall lack of power ever being an issue when I had mine, it was the lack of PAS that did it for me.

What exactly would be required to retro fit PAS; rack, column, pipework, is the pump different? Would it be plug and play if you had all the bits or would further modifications be required?

Hi Kevan, The steering columns are the same (but the column to steering steering rack coupling U/J rod may be a different length IIRC), the HP pump's are the same, (Hence the non-PAS ones are more sort after) for donor Diesel vehicles with PAS as they've not done as much work operating the PAS ram via the FDV etc. ! Therefore you would also need to add the FDV onto the 'retro fit list too'

It can be done, but it would obviously take time/money !

Best of luck with the sale Ken.

:)
